Well, I was thinking about it, but struggling to find software that recovers the specific file structure used by my storage device, which was proving difficult. Then I remembered I had used a data recovery tool a year or so ago when a drive crashed, so I contacted the same company.

Once again, they supported me through the recovery process (sounds like AA), and I have just got my files back.

Oh, the joy!

Very highly recommended if you ever find yourself losing data, either because of a crashed drive or clumsy thumbs.

Now back on track with other stuff, and developers are now tweaking our new navigation system which should be here soon.

we had a break in quite a few years ago and the little sods used a bag to take away the dvd's. Unfortunately it had many of our photos in as well. If I choose to think about it it would be upsetting!

I don't think that much about it as there is nothing I can do to change it!

I assume you have tried data recovery software!!

Michael Woodhouse thanks. Been thinking more about the title bar navigation, and whether it should, in fact, link ONLY to forums, not groups (those listed under interests).

That would mean that if you enter a forum from a group, it'll navigate you to forums outside the group (so, in the example above clicking the word Clinical = all clinical discussions, Small Animal = all small animal clinical discussions, Dentistry = all small animal dentistry discussions). That's as opposed to clicking on these words and being taken to the group home page, which is the one you find under interests).

Think I am inclined to keep all navigation within the forums, so to speak, as that's where most people would be expected to be navigating around, then keep the group stuff accessible just from the main nav at the top.

This is probably making sense only to me, so maybe I'll have to try it and see how many people complain!

Now working on something with you in mind Michael Woodhouse (in fact anyone using the site on a mobile).

The title bar of each forum page (the darker grey stripe which on a desktop has a cat and dog icon on the left hand side), is now comprised of active links to specific areas of the site ('interests' sections).

The problem, as MW pointed out, is that since I removed breadcrumb navigation, there is no way back to the main forum home page with the big list of latest discussion threads.

Been trying to think of a work around for this and it is more complicated than you would think.

How about this:

With the example above, if you click on the word 'discussions', it takes you to the forum home page for the subject area (in this case small animal dentistry). If you click Dentistry, it takes you to the small animal dentistry interest area with all dentistry content, inc gallery images, news etc. If you click Small Animal, it takes you to the small animal clinical interest area. And if you click Clinical, it takes you to all clinical content interest area (ie including all species).

But to this we add the new Forum Home link which just takes you back to the main (all subjects) forum home from any forum page. And to fit the design, we bring the claim CPD button down alongside. Hopefully right in the eyeline.

And of course the title and nav moves down the screen with you.

um - it's the advert filling the screen, not the blue box!

We tried the adverts after advertiser demand, and nobody complained at the time, so we let them run. But I was always a bit uneasy with them, so are phasing them out again.

I don't understand what you mean by fills the screen, because it is more or less the same size as the old blue box that it replaced. It's just that the old box wasn't functional, whereas the new one is.

Maybe you are seeing something different?

I left it in there temporarily whilst we switch from one type to another.

I did shrink the box after Michael's comment, and the techies said we could do something to shrink it further still (ie so it expands after you enter the title of your post, for example).

Still, because it looks so similar in size to the last one, I am curious whether you are seeing something different ...

Looks like you weren't the only one ... hardly anyone said anything until I reinstated it!

I think the moral of the story is please DO say so when you do or do not like a change I have made. I won't be offended!

How does everyone feel about the new quick post feature - ie posting straight from the home page? In particular, I asked the techies to make sure that the choice of where you post to preloads, so when you make your selection, it is instantaneous.

I will deal with this. I don't think a reversion to breadcrumb, but I agree we need a back to forum latest. I was hoping the new subject title would do that, but it doesn't.

100% no. I'd not even realised it had happened. One list pretty please in chronological order.

I'm still missing the breadcrumb navigation. It's a PITA to get back to the forum latest list on a mobile.

I’ve only just found the new non-clinical section after seeing a thread listed on the front page that didn’t appear in the list of threads, so I scrolled further. Maybe it’s just because I’m used to the old system but it wasn’t very visible for me.

I don't see the point of splitting into clinical and non clinical. I'm interested in some from each list. I can quickly see from the thread title whether it's of interest, I don't need to know whether it's clinical or non clinical to decide this. Anyway the division is a bit arbitrary - why is where you put old syringes clinical, but euthanasia non clinical?

Michael Woodhouse and Martin Atkinson I have tweaked the start a discussion box so as to reduce the vertical space (reduced some of the font-sizes and line-spacing). It now doesn't take up much more vertical space than the last blue box.

I have also moved the latest photos to below the non-clinical discussions. Not sure if that is a good idea or not. There's a new image up today for comment, and I'm not sure whether people will notice when it is further down the screen.

Reverting back to the original mix of everything jumbled in one list is still a possibility, but don't you think it is useful to have two separate lists so you can see at a glance what is going on in the clinical discussions and what is non-clinical?

Bear in mind that from my point of view, I really want to highlight the clinical discussions in particular, because it is for clinical discussions that I think our platform is SO, SO much better than facebook, in terms of the ease of following discussions here, their longevity, and the features we offer (agree/disagree/thank, user profiles, claim CPD etc).

What exactly do you mean? Where are you clicking from, which takes you to a point 2/3 screens away. Do you mean notifications at the top right of the page. If you mean that, yes, that bugs me too and is on my list to do something about.
