I had a look but Improve wouldn't let me register as it is still too far away from April/May.

Any chance of a heads up on what the questions are to have an idea??

[/quote]We've discussed this before and I do. The client signs a disclaimer to say they have checked all the details and they are correct and that I take no responsibility for any issues arising if there are any mistakes. We had one client last week who complained I'd entered the wrong address even though I used the one in their records and they hadn't thought to tell us it had changed, then complained the dog's DOB was incorrect even though I entered the one on the clinical record they must have given us when they first registered. I told him there was provision to change the address himself and changed the DOB with an endorsement in the back that I had done so. He was told if he wasn't happy with that he'd have to pay for a new passport.

I have just done the revalidation CA exam. When you take it you will need to be careful with your web browser.

I was using the latest version of Chrome. The Improve site let me log on, go to the exam and start it. The clock started ticking and the questions and answers (multiple choice) were all showing....... but no way to answer the questions!

I had to change browsers (luckily the site allowed me to do this).

There is no mention of which web browser to use to do this exam and it is a bit stressful to have to sort out technical issues like this with your invigilator sitting there and the clock ticking!

I have to admit, I'm not sure if I'm happy about that. I don't think I would have revalidated next year. Now I got one more year where I have to say "Yes, I can Tb-Test, but I'd rather not...". ;-)

What I particularly loved about Improve was, that in their initial T&Cs at least, they had the disclaimer that the will not take responsibility for mistakes or errors in their training. I have been wondering ever since whether I can put a similar disclaimer under my Tb-sheets and in the pet passports.

We are professionals and these are Mickey Mouse tests. If we have to be watched like children taking exams then the world has gone mad.

If the tests are well written we should know the answers, if we don't know the answers the test is either dodgy or as professionals we should be heading off to do more study.

I mucked up a passport by switching a 0 and a 1. Only time in however many years passports have been in use and all the tests in the world would not have stopped that happening.

If I was planning to fiddle the system no test would stop that happening. If I was corrupt no test would put me on the straight and narrow.

I don't fiddle and to be corrupt I would have to be encouraged with a heck of a lot of money!

remote invigilation by a webcam (show under desk and around computer and room and then set up to watch screen and hands of participant) is a *thing* I believe.

do your rules require a human physically in the room?

Anything in the rules saying you can't invigilate each other whilst taking the same exam?

I spent 11 years finding a way round AHVLA rules and regulations. Read the rules very carefully, that may be possible

Another stupid question!

Exactly what does the invigilator have to do? The person I would like to nominate has asked me this and I do not really know. Does it have any effect on their own revalidation?

Looking at the rules on the Improve website it all looks quite serious!

So do I. Besides that the revalidation scheme seems like a license to print money for them, the one CPD DVD the practice once got from them was so pointless I was glad I hadn't had to spend any money on it. Off course, a proper course might be different, but it makes one weary.

Regarding invigilator: I can ask my wife. Wonder though if that couldn't be seen as biased. :-))

Honestly? I can't remember. I do think it did, but as I didn't really need it, I didn't pay too much attention in the last revalidations.

I don't have a clue how I am going to get someone to invigilate my test!!

The whole thing is a disgrace and the idea that it has to be another MRCVS or a solicitor is deeply embarrassing!

A second member of staff countersigning (if anyone needs to do it at all) should be perfectly acceptable. An RVN is bound by the same false certification rules.

In reality if a veterinary surgeon cannot be trusted to carry out this task then there is no place for that person in the profession IMO.

The whole thing is a very unfunny joke.

Does the course cover the information needed for the exam?

Just asking because I understand that this allows export of birds and I only ever do pet passports for dogs and the occasional cat. I am a bit worried I might fail bird questions without the course providing the relevant information.

I can only agree with the above. The "cpds" are just a collage of stuff compiled by other people, not Improve, as far as I can see, often lack practical relevance and with all 3 (I think) revalidations I've done I could have answered the questions without the accompanying course...

I'm seriously considering of letting it all go - haven't filled in a pet passport, done a tb test or a disease investigation since starting locuming over 1.5yr ago. Bit expansive for a few hours of cpd I don't need.

But I guess, at least the government can say "look, we're doing something". And it might protect some jobs at improve.

I've revalidated for a heap of things and they are noddy questions. I don't think you're going to fail.

I hugely begrudge the whole process, and tell them so on all the feedback forms!
