Hi Guys,

Sorry for the late reply, I have been busy trying my new blog site out: www.vetstudentonline.com. It's still in its' infantcy so any ideas on how to improve this would be great! There is a contact page on there.

I have been chatting to other members of my classes and they want me to put a cpd section on there.

Arlo, I was wondering if you would let me put a link on there to your CPD diary section. This would help in your link building campaign, once my site also develops it will pump more link juice into your own site.

I still have contacts who are link builders. they have been doing this for years. If you would like to PM me I can send you their details. It's not about the quantity, but the quality and relevancy of the links.

Blimey, so you do. And you seem to be doing that contrary to all the known rules of Google search engine optimisation! I mean, Google doesn't use metatags (people were using them to spam search engines). And I see that on your home page, your title tag is 'Cliveansell'. Google DOES use that, and really it should be something like 'locum vet: Clive Ansell'.

Anyway, be that as it may, you're doing well at the moment. Suspect that means there isn't much competition for the search term at the moment (not many other locum vets have their own website??), but you might need to work on it to retain that position (or improve it) in the future ...

My site needs updating, just don't seem to have the time these days. I have travels from Ethiopia, Bolivia, India and Morocco to add too. I am going to revamp the whole site I think.

I am already fairly visible to Google, have added many metatags and if you search "locum vet" I appear about 6th I think. Many thanks anyway.

Hi Rachel. Stoopidly I hadn't thought of advertising alongside the recruitment agencies. I'll look at that now. As regards other groups, I have started advertising against some of them.

Problem is identifying ones that lots of UK-based vets search for on Google, and which are also not likely to return in response to a pet-owner search result. Finally, they have to be ones I can afford.

IVIS looks like a possibility, though perhaps too international. Any other groups come to mind?

Seriously, Google is fantastic and I use it several times daily for almost anything. I have been looking for Monty Python and Spamalot links today to buy a friend a present.

Welcome to the site. Great to see a student getting stuck in, and hope you'll invite others!

Thanks for your very generous offer. Yes we do SEO in house - within the limits of the content management system we're running. But certainly I'd be interested if you told me we ranked poorly for something you think we should rank highly for!

In fact, as VetSurgeon grows, and more content is added, it automatically becomes better optimised. But one area I am keen to develop further is search engine marketing, i.e. more inbound links from other good quality websites.

Arlo, have you tried any kind of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation?)

I worked for an SEO company and can point you in the right direction if you would like?

I am quite happy to do some research for you and point out some areas where you can improve on.

(It would be quite a nice project for me as I'm interested in this and always like to keep my eye on the web)

absolutely ! everything ! - its quicker than trotting off to find a book!!! had a rare case the other day ,of which theres only 1 published paper - found it online in seconds.
