I know nothing about 3D printing but does anyone know if these come out looking as in the image or do they need painting?

The training makes money therefore this sort of money is not really out of the question (subject to infighting etc) especially as one could be purchased each year to make up a set of worker, queen, drone.

I had seen this site and they are amazing but I suspect the politics will cause me to walk away.

As seems to be the thing with bee keeping associations there appears to be too much infighting for this to be a priority!

3D printing is available but I doubt anyone will agree with anyone else so I am backing out for the time bee ing.

Not answering your question, but I like macro photography and find the way these worker bees hold the lavender cup adorable.

Regarding 3D printing - I've found a file which seems to be a reasonable version of a honey bee - but I have no idea if it's sufficiently anatomically accurate for your purposes! Take a look: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2352705 If you think it's reasonable you could get it printed by a commercial online 3D print company - it might be slightly more expensive than you expect, however - the cheapest automatic quote I got from www.shapeways.com is $100.

I *might* be able to print it for you, but it's not an easy file - it needs slicing up to print in parts and reconstructing, then finishing and painting depending on the final quality and surface finish you need!

Sounds like a papier mache project to me

But I just show pics in my lectures. Nothing like the real things set against others to differentiate them wrt scale.
