Taken out of context (sorry Bob) but think about this.

1) Building a car is hardly carbon neutral, a new Ford Mondeo releases 17 tonnes of CO2 equivalents. It gets even more interesting when the greenest car is looked at, it's not a prius, it's the all American Jeep. The logic being locally sourced materials and the workers live near the plant. In reality you are more environmental keeping a car going as long as possible

2) Electric, where does that come from? Oft cited is 'well in Norway all cars will be electric by 2024' Well Norway are 100% green in electric production. That's because they have hydroelectric and wind for 5.2 million people. We're getting there, but not yet.

I am fairly happy to accept that the climate is warming but not quite convinced by the doom-mongers.

I have no issues with us trying to live on this planet as efficiently as possible and reducing unnecessary contamination to a minimum. I drive a diesel but will happily trade it in for something similar that is either a hybrid or electric. This is because I don't like the hassle of filling up the car!

More mpg would be nice although the car is not overly thirsty.

I seem to buy a lot of 10p bags though.

I think it's an interesting argument as to whether individual "ethical consumerism" does any good or not (if we assume that the specific aim of the "ethical consumerism" is a noble one that can be considered for the common good with reasonable objectivity).

At risk of tangenting, but still on an environmental topic, can I recommend https://www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/product/the-sixth-extinction-hd_101315816 as a good read (or so I remember it to be) on the issue of habitat destruction and loss of biodiversity in our lifetime.

If I'm not doing anything illegal, you have absolutely no right, especially from such a weak position. But environmentalism thinks this is a valid position, its odd, desultory and ultimately disgusting. Much like everything that comes out of the Left.

David you are sounding like a petulant child. My son rants about not wanting to wear a jumper, tidy up after himself or follow guidelines but he is only 4!

Even if you don't believe the scientific expert opinion about climate change specifically, surely it is common sense (and common courtesy) to try to minimise your destructive impact on this world for infinite other reasons?

Why?

Well, as done to death, I am not convinced that climate change is being affected by individual human activity as much as the lobby tells us. Doing the above individually won't change a thing when you look at the effect of industry especially in the US and China.

Secondly is the hypocrisy. If the government believe carbon emissions are an issue then tackle them head on, targeting the big protagonists. Telling people not to eat meat or taxing it to exclusivity would lose you an election, so it doesn't happen, similarly tackling industry. (note I don't think either would do much based on the science we have). Instead, they try to make you sort your rubbish (degrading) then stick most of it in the same landfill (idiotic), whilst creating jobs doing this sham (perverse, insulting).

The hypocrisy is nimbyism epitomised. The tut tutting and interfering in how people live their lives, based on a flawed concept. The government and anyone else has no damned right.

The chief (perhaps only) cause of global warming beyond the natural cycles is the number of human beings on the planet especially the relatively recent explosion of numbers.

Everything else is tinkering at the edges.

Er, not quite David. In fact, the biggest single factor is babies. This study found that a US family which decides to have one less child would provide the same level of emissions reductions as 684 teenagers who choose to adopt comprehensive recycling for the rest of their lives.

Not sure about the thing of what you call "the busybody climate changers telling people how to live their lives"

Personally, I see all sorts of benefits of reducing emissions, regardless of whether or not you think they are causing climate change, chiefly less overcrowding and a better, cleaner environment to live in. Also, it would mean we can stretch our finite resources (eg oil reserves) out longer.

And I kind of think that those people who believe human activity is NOT causing climate change are taking quite a big punt. For me, the question is 'why not?' (do things to reduce emissions).
