If you wish a tangent , would this be 'posturing, scaremongering and propaganda? I hear voices saying that too.

Taken out of context (sorry Bob) but think about this.

1) Building a car is hardly carbon neutral, a new Ford Mondeo releases 17 tonnes of CO2 equivalents. It gets even more interesting when the greenest car is looked at, it's not a prius, it's the all American Jeep. The logic being locally sourced materials and the workers live near the plant. In reality you are more environmental keeping a car going as long as possible

2) Electric, where does that come from? Oft cited is 'well in Norway all cars will be electric by 2024' Well Norway are 100% green in electric production. That's because they have hydroelectric and wind for 5.2 million people. We're getting there, but not yet.

I am simply fighting against the intrusion into my private life by people on a virtue signalling mission that will only inconvenience me, based on a house of cards.
It happens everywhere, even on this thread. People having the arrogance to tell you to put on a jumper, walk instead of drive, use less plastic etc. I find it offensive intellectually and personally.

Why?

Well, as done to death, I am not convinced that climate change is being affected by individual human activity as much as the lobby tells us. Doing the above individually won't change a thing when you look at the effect of industry especially in the US and China.

Secondly is the hypocrisy. If the government believe carbon emissions are an issue then tackle them head on, targeting the big protagonists. Telling people not to eat meat or taxing it to exclusivity would lose you an election, so it doesn't happen, similarly tackling industry. (note I don't think either would do much based on the science we have). Instead, they try to make you sort your rubbish (degrading) then stick most of it in the same landfill (idiotic), whilst creating jobs doing this sham (perverse, insulting).

The hypocrisy is nimbyism epitomised. The tut tutting and interfering in how people live their lives, based on a flawed concept. The government and anyone else has no damned right.

RE: Latest global warming figures
Unfortunately converting to vegetarianism leads to significantly more emissions...
Yup, instead of a few million farting cows there'll be 7.2 billion farting humans!

RE: Latest global warming figures
If you believe in human global warming, the biggest single factor is meat eating.
Er, not quite David. In fact, the biggest single factor is babies. This study found that a US family which decides to have one less child would provide the same level of emissions reductions as 684 teenagers who choose to adopt comprehensive recycling for the rest of their lives.

Not sure about the thing of what you call "the busybody climate changers telling people how to live their lives"

Personally, I see all sorts of benefits of reducing emissions, regardless of whether or not you think they are causing climate change, chiefly less overcrowding and a better, cleaner environment to live in. Also, it would mean we can stretch our finite resources (eg oil reserves) out longer.

And I kind of think that those people who believe human activity is NOT causing climate change are taking quite a big punt. For me, the question is 'why not?' (do things to reduce emissions).

RE: Latest global warming figures
Place reeks.

RE: Latest global warming figures
It appears there's some consensus over the disadvantages of eating meat.

And probably some review articles too.

RE: Latest global warming figures
Yes, in the incredibly small sample size we have. So what.

Iain, do you eat meat?
Met Office data below. Looks convincing to me, but as a scientist, I'm open to further evidence.

Happily eat meat - curious question though in this context.
Actually a very relevant question, meat production is considered to be a massive contributor to global warming, the most recent paper in Nature is here:

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-018-0594-0.epdf?

And an article about it in The Guardian here:

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/oct/10/huge-reduction-in-meat-eating-essential-to-avoid-climate-breakdown

RE: Latest global warming figures
Lovely. Something so important is being decided by gobsat.

Consensus statements, well. Along with review articles, should be banned.

Climate change - such a sad perversion of science. It is almost anti science.

The funny thing is, they won't change a thing. And quite rightly so

RE: Latest global warming figures
David - you still haven't answered my question - do you accept global temperatures are rising?
