Niall Taylor Dopamine rush reinstated. Now whenever someone agrees/disagrees/thanks/likes your post, you get that notification again.

I believe the harsh, sarcasm has mellowed. That is what I think upset and hurt people most. Perhaps not recognised by the posters.

I agree the atmosphere is less 'corrosive' and has become more supportive. We are in a tough profession which is under intense pressure so a safe haven is good to have!

One thing I do miss is the 'dopamine rush' when I used to be notified at the top of the page (in notifications) that 'so and so has commented on your post'.

Er - nope, they're how many people have thanked, liked, agreed or disagreed with your posts!

But they don't feel anything like as judgemental as the previous star system. Three out of four are positive reactions. And disagree? Well, I think it's so much better; more measured than the old star system, where I always interpreted one star as: "you're an utter waste of space" (or words to that effect). To disagree is fine. It doesn't make one side or the other right or wrong. We can all agree to disagree.

I agree - having been one of the ones previously chewed up and spat out on this forum, the atmosphere has improved dramatically and I feel I can voice my opinion and have a good debate. I was wondering though with the counts under our profile of agree, disagree etc, I'm assuming those tallies are buttons we have pressed and not judgements on our posts - but just wanted to check?

What a wonderful encouraging post to start my week

I've had a few other people PM me to say they thought the atmosphere had improved significantly over the last couple of months, as a result of certain steps I'd taken. I was a bit nervous that pushing my 'be nice' agenda might take something away from the forums, but I don't think it has. I think it has just made things more inviting, collaborative and ultimately therefore more useful.

So now, with a better vibe and better functionality, what I'd really like all of you to do is encourage your colleagues to come and get stuck in. If there are any who have had their heads chewed off in the past, or have had that impression, you can tell them things have changed.

And with the added functionality, I think we've got a really good platform now which makes 'sharing' a really good quality form of CPD:

VetSurgeon Profiles - so you can assess the professional credentials of the person posting advice or their opinion.
VetSurgeon Reactions - not only can you thank for sharing, but you can see what proportion of the broader community agrees or disagrees with the advice or opinion posted.
VetSurgeon Claim CPD - and you can record this good quality info-sharing and get a certificate, which includes a reminder of what you learned.

I really like the system, interesting that the dislike button isn't used that often and the agree button is hit as you nod away whilst reading.

I also feel that the atmosphere on the forum is extremely good these days. I briefly tried Veterinary Voices but was well and truly chewed up by a Veterinary Nurse in regards offering dogs bones, so stopped following the group. It struck me then that Arlo's benign though vigilant oversight of this place works very well

I don't have them either. Earlier today they disappeared when I first opened a topic then reappeared, like it was slow loading. On Google Chrome on a desktop computer with Windows 10

Well, we left them big to be thumb friendly, but I agree that is a bit too big!

I think it's working really well. Original poster able to thank people quickly. Quick way for people to concur (or disagree with) points made by others which I think looks really useful. And as the scores start appearing next to people's posts, I think they are starting to be reasonably reflective.

What does everyone else think?

For me, the tweaks we need are:

1. Some sort of notification when you've been thanked or reacted to.

2. A page (in your profile) where you can see a list of those things you have posted which people have reacted to.

pop up lists of people who reacted now display real names according to profile settings
pop up lists no longer appear simultaneously
added 'like' as a reaction
You can't react to yourself any more!

I have also now installed 'thank you' into each of the photo gallery posts, so if someone posts something you find interesting or useful, you can thank them for sharing.

Liz and I will be making much more of the galleries soon (you may notice there is a much more detailed filing structure for images now).
