The latest sitrep from VetSurgeon Towers is that the techies are working on the fault with the system that asks you all to update your details, and I HOPE it will be ready for a second attempt today or tomorrow.

I'm also getting very (over?) excited because reactions (agree/disagree/thank you) are coming right behind. They are now finished and ready to go through testing, and just awaiting launch of VetSurgeon Connect. (Michael Woodhouse to thank for being the thorn in my side on this one )

Meanwhile, Liz Barton and I have been working on the galleries section with a view to making that a much more important part of the site.

As some of you will know, I have been a bit worried about members migrating to other discussion groups, chiefly Facebook. This latest round of updates will mean that comparing VetSurgeon to Facebook (and others) ...

On top of all that, I think the format of our discussion threads over here make them much easier to follow than over on FB. And going on the feedback I've had privately, I think we have also made great strides forward in making this a much more friendly, collegiate environment.

All in all, I think all this gives us a valid claim to offer the best information-sharing platform there is, and I just can't wait to switch it all on!

I didn't get a pop up, as my computer keeps me logged in, so only did it because I stumbled across this thread....

Looks to me like there is an issue where I am only asking people to update a couple of fields in your profiles with the pop up message, BUT if there any any other issues with your registration, like you don't have a correctly formatted telephone number (which you cant see or edit with the pop up message), it won't save properly.

Frustrating, but we'll have to get it fixed and try again tomorrow.

I can still log in from my laptop but failed from my phone.

Iphone with safari. A pop-up screen appeared asking me to update my details and accept if I want to connect. Flickering all the time, did not work. Had to close the page from browser.

But I see your practice name is still incorrect, not updated.

Same as Jill, so I wonder if that is the common denominator

I've just tried and would describe it as jammed

The big green arrow worked and the save on the bottom flickered from the bottom, half filled green then stopped. I had to log out. I used the link at the top of this thread and it seemed to know who I was.

Not sure what you mean by 'it jammed'!

But I see your account details have not been updated, and you shouldn't be able to enter the site without doing it!

Phase one of launch now underway - which is that we are now forcing all members to update their registered practice / address and you can't enter the site till you have.

... which creates a bit of a problem, which is that I won't know if anyone is having any difficulty updating their details, and they won't be able to login and tell me!

If you've had the message when you tried to log in, and it all went smoothly, it would be helpful to know!

Hmm, I've always thought the caring professions inherently more collaborative than many others. But yes, I think we're still only seeing the start of how the internet enables us to pool resources.

Yes, that thought had occurred to me too (but very useful to know it wasn't just me).

Longer term, I think the solution is that I need to add a system which sends you an email when someone you have a shared interest / goal arrives in the area. So for example, if a new referral practitioner arrives within 30-40 miles, you get an email alert.

I think it looks good. I would probably try it out, but if there weren't many hits straight away I may not go back. I'm not sure how you achieve that critical mass which should then be self - perpetuating, but fingers crossed it works

I think it's a great idea, Arlo, and reflects the changing nature of the profession and how the internet will create opportunities we haven't even yet thought of. Your approach seems to be encouraging collaboration rather than competition, which is refreshing, and rather different to the strictly business approach of old, both within the profession and academia, which can be quite Machiavellian.

So my comment, rather than concern, might be that it may not appeal to those wishing to play their cards close to their chest, but will appeal to the more open minded, opportunistic members of the profession.
