lb as in 2lb's of potatoes originates from the Latin 'libra pondo' (pound weight). Clearly someone could not spell or had a heavy cold so it sounded more like libra bondo!

N-no. The original Olympic Games were a religious festival. They were a celebration of culture, so included competitions in everything a cultured man might be skilled in: not only athletic pursuits, but poetry, sculpture and so on.

But not cycling.

I believe that the original Olympic Games soon became a political event, with the various city-states vying for prestige and power. So no change there.

[/quote]And art was an event in the 1948 London Olympics. Given the origins of the games were testing the skills ancient warriors would need in battle it makes the mind boggle. Perhaps if you could read a good poem or paint a nice portrait of your enemy it might bring out his non-aggressive side and you'd all live to fight another day.

I dabled in food photography for a while (mistakenly thinking it would be a suitable alternative career - couldn't stand the social media side) and it is amazing the tricks used to make food look appealing!
