Ah - OK, I thought you were talking about collaborating on actual marketing initiatives.

Training/CPD/Courses, well that's another thing altogether and yes, was very much on my mind at the very outset.

We have added two new fields to profiles, provisionally titled

MEMBERSHIPS

and

GOALS

The former is to indicate whether you are a member of any other groups, both on and offline, which are notable (ie not the big associations which most people are members of, but the smaller special interest groups).

The latter - GOALS - is where I see this fitting in.

I need to make a list of goals which members can select, and then they will be able to see whether others in their area share the same goals, who they can collaborate with.

Getting more proficient in a subject is a goal, so, I know, we can have a subsection: Learning, and then a list of subject areas. Then those who share the same interest in learning about those subject areas can connect ...

Can anyone suggest other common goals you have.

We could divide them into

Learning

Business

Personal

Suggestions on a postcard please!

Apparently not.

In order to complete all NPLs it may be that another practice will need to be contacted e.g. labs, scopes, equine and so on...

We have made arrangements for nursing students from our practice to visit other practices to gain experience with endoscopy, and have had a nursing student from a local referral practice come to us to see some of the every day things that we do that aren't seen at referral level. I do think it would be useful to be able to easily contact a group of other local training practices to arrange this more easily, though I suspect some of the nurse training colleges are already facilitating this.

RE: Connecting members with a common need

Trigger warning [Examples]

For the hard of thinking (ie me), can you say exactly which common needs it would helpful to connect vets by on the map?

Something to do with drugs? (ie has someone nearby got any of drug x on their shelf).
He did actually mention a need - denaturing drugs. When we dispose of out-of date scheduled drugs they have to be denatured in a special pot so they cannot be re-used. This has to be witnessed by a vet from another practice, an officer of the law or the VMD inspector. I have to say for my part I have so little I store it and wait for the latter.

RE: Connecting members with a common need
In all honesty, I personally wouldn't use a map. I kind of thought this would be the case with most vets?
That's kinda why I thought what would perhaps be more useful is a broadcast system - ie not a map, but a system which allows you to broadcast an email message to others in your area, to save you having to ring round for a drug, for example.

But as they say on Dragon's Den, maybe it's a solution to a problem that disnah exist.

RE: Connecting members with a common need

In all honesty, I personally wouldn't use a map.
Aha - found one:
Have you thought about using the local vets in your area thing to list whether practices would be willing to help with VN training, or share marketing/PR/Advertising resources?
Talk about blood out of a stone, but thank you.

Helping with VN training - I don't know to what degree that goes on between consenting practices, so to speak. Anyone else have an opinion on this?

I'll throw the question to the floor. As I think about it, I wonder whether it is overcomplicating things by trying to do this on the map, and instead what we could do is have a system which just allows everyone to broadcast a message to colleagues in the local area, for example: Anyone got any [insert drug name here], anyone feel like sharing a lift to [insert CPD course name here] and so on, and so on ...

Once we have our new, more precise member location stuff uploaded, I think that's not too technically challenging ....

RE: Connecting members with a common need

Trigger warning[pointing out the obvious]
There has been a plan for some time to have vets with common interests shown on a map, so that like minded individuals could contact each other. Why not use this for vets with common need?
Something to do with drugs? (ie has someone nearby got any of drug x on their shelf).

If that's what you are talking about, I would need to add a little more programming in there, because it would need to be more active than just displayed on a map. It would need an email message out to ask others in the area. Actually, the same would be true of any urgent need.

Interesting idea.
