I am sure there was a clarifying notification from DEFRA that stated it was fine to have 3 years to the day. Sods law someone return three years to the day and get caught up.

I always enter 3 years minus one.

You jest, but horse vets need to consider this for flu vacc duration for competition! (actually I think that the BRC recently removed the leap year clause, but it's still an issue for us for the other bodies whose regulations specify '365 days or fewer', and has been the cause of refused entry to competition).

Yup, that's exactly how I used to do it. Then, when the guidelines were tightened to say exactly how to calculate the date and I thought about it more, it was clear that it actually depends on the time of day the vaccination was done. If you gave the vaccine at midday on 14/4/18 then you could give the booster, still on-datasheet, on 14/4/21, as long as it was before midday.

I would have thought if a vaccination card/certificate/record (?) is signed off on 15/4/2018, the last day of annual validity (With the exception of leap years, century years, and leap seconds) would be the 365th day, or 14/4/2019. If it were 15/4/2019, there would be 2 x 15th April in the vaccination same year ???

And what if it is a century year, where once every hundred years a leap year is missed.

Also; The length of a day is also occasionally changed by the insertion of leap seconds into coordinated universal time (UTC), owing to the variability of Earth's rotational period. Unlike leap days, leap seconds are not introduced on a regular schedule, since the variability in the length of the day is not entirely predictable.

For the 21 day 'valid from' rection the guidance reads:

"A ‘valid from’ date should be entered for the first recorded vaccine. This date is the 21st day after the first vaccination, where the day of vaccination is day 0. Booster vaccinations given within the validity period of the previous vaccine do not need an entry in the ‘valid from’ field"

So I apply the same rule to the 'valid to' date. If the vaccine has a 3 year DOI and is given on 14/4/18 then the 'valid to' date would be 14/4/21.

Same as you, but equally have seen people putting 3yrs minus 1 day
