I first came across Liz as a result of her work building vetsnet.net , a support resource hub for the profession.

"DRUBBING - noun

a beating; a thrashing.

"I'll give the scoundrels a drubbing if I can!"

Synonyms: beating, thrashing, walloping, thumping, battering, pounding, pummelling, slapping, smacking, punching, bludgeoning, thwacking, cuffing, buffeting, mauling, pelting, lambasting"

Nothing like a good lambasting now and then. Or indeed lamb-basting. Here's to the fun and games ahead

RE: Welcome to our new VetSurgeon Co-Editor
i bought one of them wheeled contraptions
... the trouble with cycling is the enjoyment is correlated* with the amount you spend on your wheeled contraption. If you only had 4 gears you wouldn't stand a chance of experiencing the thrill of slogging against tarmac and gravity cycling at 90rpm to power up at 2-3mph.

You weren't a convert George, but at least you gave it a go. BTW metoclop would be a useful adjunct to cycling; number of times I've got up a hill and nearly hurled at, rather than admire, the scenic view!

*(Notice I deliberated say correlated, it's not a linear relationship for those of you on an artfully economic faithful handmade or similar).

RE: Welcome to our new VetSurgeon Co-Editor
Neil
What’s golf (goff?).

i bought one of them wheeled contraptions with chain, pedals, handles, seat etc, and set off down the road. Mid Wales, as you all know, is full, simply chokker, of hills- some gentle inclines, some fiendish twisted precipitous switchbacks, and very little nice and level for ageing guitarists and fiddlers.

Where I set off it was lovely, pointing down, down into the valley to where a gentle stream babbled and broke over pebbles......I enjoyed that. I had travelled 500 yards (ripe for a song to be written, in the spring sun, birds on the wing, bees in the flowers and the smell of cowshit on the wind).

Twas then time to return. UP the hill. Against the unseen wind that carried the country perfume. I started in fourth gear. Two pedals later I found third. One pedal later I was in first......and then, in delightful slo-mo suspended time with heightened awareness state of mind, ........ I stalled, and gently, imperceptibly at first but with gathering speed I began to list to port and descended, quite digifiedly actually, into the ditch that was there awaiting my horizontal arrival, full of the farmers effluent.

When I finished chuckling, I walked up the 500 yard hill, and threw the bike in the garage where it remained for 18months until another Vet rescued it. I have not ridden again.

But I have written a song or two. I might record them, and post them on here, to balance things out.

RE: Welcome to our new VetSurgeon Co-Editor

Welcome Liz and good luck.
Thank you Arlo and everyone for the welcome! It's been a huge year for me, focussing on the wellbeing of the profession developing Vetsnet, WellVet weekend, alongside my vet job and being mum. Increasingly frequent discussions with Arlo has shown we're very much on the same page, and I hope to augment this great community with my experience and understanding from the sharp end. No doubt I'll make the odd error... I'm decidedly human!

And to you cyclists out there, my anniversary 'gift' from my hubby was babysitting while we went for a 53miler today. Getting ready for Tour de Cambridge as part of WellVet weekend. Creating and developing sporting connections amongst the profession is one of my passions.
