As we are talking technology, Windows phones are fantastic. Really straight forward to own and use. Sadly most apps don't work hence its demise!

I don't like iphones and hate all the cr+p that suddenly appears on my Sony android phone. Don't use them, don't want them and not all can be easily deleted. Presumably the reason why android is free for phone companies to use.

Dunno much at all about iPhones, never wanted any such thing, but I guess if she stores the photos in the Cloud she can get at them with the phone whenever she wants?

Apple FanBoy here and have been for 10 years. And in our practice with 2 Directors, and 3 staffers we have all ported over into the Mac system - all with iPhones, iPads of varying degrees of weight and size, and at home iMacs - mostly with the glorious 27 inch screens - which, if you do photography Iain, will satisfy all your cravings.

One further thought - when you go Mac you get as a part of their system the various Word processing stuff, Spreadsheet, Presentation, Photo-manipulating Apps. The only one I struggle with is their Video software iMovie.

NOT convinced that storing every ruddy byte off-line on their iCloud dooflick as I quite like docs to be available on my real machine.

Their Backup system, wireless, graphic and reliable is a genuine miracle in my opinion.

AND there is a system called Spotlight which knows every bit and byte you've ever forgotten about and within seconds will pull it up for you complete with any multiple sources. It will even give you suggestions for linked items all over the web. I use that for songs, for fragments of lyrics, titles etc and it has never let me down. And since, like you photography is a keen interest, my whole battery of photos is instantly available - all 30,000 images!

Go Mac. Now. (I have a rather unwieldy 12" iPad Pro complete with additional keyboard - but given that it combines touchscreen and keyboard I think that I like it... ... ...!)

Apple are also practically unique among the computing giants with regards their stance to individuals' privacy, and their stance around security isn't too bad either (a few notable slips-ups).

There's no comparison, and I hate Appleites.

Still on my first Macbook Air 8 years in. Used it heavily. Still holds 2h battery with heavy usage. Quick as you like, never crashes, lovely smooth system.

PC at work. Hate it. Have a Google chromebook for work and that's pretty good but not a mac.

Depends what you want it for overall. But these days you're never far from a charging point which is why I'm still happy with mine and guard it with my life.

I swapped everything to Mac but bit by bit - began with an iPod then iPhone then MacBook Pro

iPaid but it has bee totally worth it.

i don’t recognise the issues described above - and love the way my electronic life is seamlessly arranged on lappie, phone and tablet - it’s all there, wherever I am and wherever I am.

wouldn’t go back to a PC if you paid me

Do you mean SuperDuper (which is not Apple, but third-party and free)? That's ridiculous. It's simple and foolproof. Maybe your partner was trying to be too clever? Maybe he was using a dud external backup drive? Maybe he's just not very good with computers at all?

I've always used Windows PC's my business parnter in Mac (Macbook Pro and now for a couple of years MB Air). We are in the education business and do a lot of travelling and presenting so our computers get hammered - and I'm always comparing his with mine - so to speak. In terms of speed, mine always knocks spots of his. His is nothing but trouble connecting up to AV equipment for seminars etc. He can't find stuff as quick as I can. Worst - he uses Mac's super-duper backup thing... ...and lost everything because it screwed up.

I love Mac's for the ergonomics and engineering. I bought a MB Pro a few years ago and I hated it. I asked my brother-in-law - computer programmer for government and has to be familiar with both - what he thought - "PC does everything that Mac does, but with fewer keystrokes - I work on a PC" My MBP now sits in my spare room looking pretty.

Windows has had it's problems, but with Windows 10 things have really moved forwards. I bought a Thinkpad July 2017 and I love it. Key point - it has a solid state drive (like the MB Air). Boots up faster than my partner's MB Air (and does everything else faster too) and it's cheaper. I looked at Microsoft surface pro etc back in July, but the high resolution screen was a problem for me. Not because it is NOT a better screen, but because I have a pile of legacy Adobe software that won't work well on super high res screens ('updating' it to new version is subscription only at £48/month + VAT - offering no new useful features). Hence going for a Thinkpad with a 1920x1080 screen res. Otherwise I would have bought a Surface Pro.

Neither!

I have a Lenovo ideapad miix. I went mad and got the 720 but really would have been just as happy with a slightly lower spec machine. Mine was reconditioned (actually just had a scratch on the top, covered by the case.

(less than) Half the price and works well. Not really got the hang of using the pen and was amazed to find there was such a thing as an AAAA battery!

Has a SSD and is very quick. Still playing with it but performs really well.

Edit: 2 USB's (but one used to charge so may be left with one) and a micro HDMI port.

I love my Mac products, and especially my Macbook Air. It takes a little bit of getting used to, after a PC, but not much (mainly that you have to double check where things are being saved). The main advantage I feel is that it behaves and doesn't slow up like every PC I ever owned until I've wanted to throw them out of the window. Same with my desktop Mac.
