I find it familiar because I have worked for large corporate companies I suppose. Have never thought much of it. They have to have protocols for getting people settled in - learning how to submit their expenses, get their parking permit, know where the fire exits are - all that boring stuff.
[/quote] pedant alert

Chris I find it even more unsettling that you find it familiar. I see a similarity between teenagers adopting words that adults are not meant to comprehend and management speak making a verb out of “ on board”, (initially a nautical term). It seems designed to identify the user as rather more clever with words than his audience as they take that split second to process what was actually meant. There is no nautical term such as “ off board” I think so it sounds even more ridiculous to “off-board someone“ .

This sort of management led drivel appears to be the way that we should move forwards to engage with the requirements of new staffing protocols in order to facilitate the generalised and proactive integration of person or persons otherwise described in the employment documentation associated with forthcoming employment entitlements resulting from a mutual expression of desirability to employ and be employed by an organisation over the forthcoming period of time. Clearly and in simple terms off boarding is the integrated process of mutually agreed reversal of the employment status.

RE: Linguistic abomination

Y’all c’n go ‘n’ vault the Gran’ C’ny’n. Nowt wrong wi’ ma banjo - he’s cosy ‘n’ comfy rapp’d Up in his case ‘n’all.

"..

In identity management, onboarding is the addition of a new employee to an organization's identity and access management (IAM) system. The term is also used if an employee changes roles within the organization and is granted new or expanded access privileges.

Conversely, offboarding refers to the IAM processes surrounding the removal of an identity for an employee who has left the organization. The term may also be used to describe the restriction of certain access rights when an employee has changed roles within the organization.

Onboarding and offboarding procedures must be documented to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. To avoid errors that could result from a manual offboarding procedure, experts suggested automating the process through a talent management system..."

I know washboarding is a form of torture, I mean musical instrument, which was popular with George when he was busking with his banjo and mouth organ and knee cymbals.
