I bought a tractive tracker afterward my 11year old got lost as she is less able to track me these days. If the device is in a service area it is brilliant , if not then it is useless. I’m the new forest the service is patchy but although I was tempted to return the device I hav opted to keep it. If I am in an open area it still works quite well

Not so convinced about that. They could if they wanted improve conditions for low paid workers' , but they choose not too.

I don't know enough about tax law, but Amazon and their ilk should be paying their share. If not they should be boycotted.

I use John Lewis for almost everything I can, foc delivery to home if >£50 or to a local Waitrose, and with excellent customer service, and an easy no questions asked, no quibble returns policy, it makes life very easy.

I buy most of my bits and pieces next door and prices are fine. Minor electrical items in the village, less choice but fine.

Cycle stuff round the corner, good range and service.

I am not going to head in to Southampton to see less range and similar prices. I have been known to go to John Lewis on occasions but can have the same stuff delivered FOC to the Waitrose 150 yards down the road.

Nothing we can do about on-line pet medication. Different business model and no chance to compete. We will suggest many foods and some very expensive medication is bought on-line. Not often asked for a written prescription but deeply resented it when we had to do it free of charge. That was unfair and we were subsidising our competition.

The internet is not going away and it would be hypercritical of me to say shopping this way is not for me. It is, it suits me down to the ground. I have no intention of being that profitable for them though!

Here's a couple of examples and an anecdote

Using your local shop has benefits. I buy all my cycling stuff from shops, not wiggle (internet site) yes it's marginally cheaper there? However if I pop in, I am greeted by a real person, we chat about tours and when I really need something quickly, they will bend over backwards to fix it.

We're in a world of International Trade. Does anyone remember George Osbourne trying to bring taxation regulations to the fore on an international footing.

It's up to us as individuals to make a choice and this argument isn't dissimilar to Petmeds on the internet is it? and look how businesses loathe that as they try to compete. (because they can't)

Me too, and will do almost all of my shopping on line, although it doesn't have to be with Amazon. In fact where I live (Solihull) local council is doing a fairly effective job at bumping off high street trade, with high business rates, hideous traffic queuing, and ridiculous parking charges.

They won't though. Our current government supports extreme right wing economics and capitalism; they support massive tax breaks, and are in favour of the likes of Amazon (Among many others). They want a cheap workforce, and legislation protecting workers' is being eroded if anything.

I will shop and pay more if necessary in our local shops but no more. i doubt I am that profitable for Amazon but 'Alexa' rules our household with a rod of iron!!

I agree with Neil about Amazon, they exemplify what is wrong with extreme capitalism and making a fast buck regard less of any consequences.

That said, I do use them, albeit less and less. I wanted to buy a cable for Garmin sportswatch yesterday. The genuine thing from Garmin £15.99 +P&P, a generic one from Amazon, £3.99 - sadly a no-brainer, free delivery.

Amazon are their distributors even if you buy from their website. As I said, do you want to pay an extra £20 for the pleasure of still getting it from Amazon?

I have to admit that the high Street is also my greatest nightmare.

My revenge on Amazon is to buy something small on Prime. Next day buy something small on Prime. I make sure I am an expensive customer.

That said there is little or nothing anyone can do to remove their stranglehold on the market other than make sure they pay ALL the taxes due and this includes VAT from their marketplace sellers.

We have to live with Amazon but sellers starting with a 20% VAT 'discount' make it impossible for anyone to compete. Similar situation for Ebay. I doubt the cheap Weenect unit sellers are charging VAT.

Trackers to measure how far you walk

1/2 hour lunch breaks where the warehouse is so large you take 15 minutes to get a hot drink

It's awful and we're fuelling it

Would I pay an extra £20 to go direct? Yes I would, and frequently do on the High Street, though a proper comparison often shows that prices aren't that different.

Otherwise it's a future of barbers/coffee shops and little else....

Weenect is a fairly recent start up company and as far as I am aware use Amazon to sell and distribute their products. If you want to pay £20 more through their website and still have it sent out by Amazon then feel free to do so.

Other retailers are probably not available!

Actually there is a seller on Ebay that has them for under £40 + post. Presumably they are also destroying the High Street!

A recent book / multiple articles etc are highlighting that the fact they are cheap is because they don't pay their workers a living wage, set up in deprived areas, pay little tax etc etc

And it's killing the High Street

Weenect make units suitable for cats, dogs, children and the elderly. We have one for a wandering cat!

Can be set to give almost second by second positioning or positioning on demand. This changes the battery life so is going to be less important in dogs than cats.

It works brilliantly and sometimes the unit is discounted on Amazon. The cat one comes down to under £50 on occasions.

There is a small monthly charge because there is a built in sim card and there is ten minutes 'talk time'. You get the app to phone you back! I doubt dogs will respond but the cat does to my wife's voice but not mine!

For an extra £ or so it comes with insurance against loss and theft!

Cheaper units are available but this one is GPS and mobile signal. GPS gives a small area to search and mobile signal a bit bigger one.

The range of roaming has been a bit of an eye opener!!
