Arguably that would read better as "...which is in use in the US more than on this side of the Atlantic."
But that changes the meaning. The original phrase '... gotten which is in use in the US more than this side of the Atlantic' to me means 'gotten which is in use in the US [side of the Atlantic] more than this side of the Atlantic', which includes Canada. If that is how it was intended then the second 'in' would probably have been better as 'on'.
Hm, I had not thought of it that way. No, I don't think one can be "in" a side of the Atlantic, I think one has to be "on" it.

Moreover, if referring to the Western side of the Atlantic Ocean, it is not customary to refer to "the US side" if one intends to include Canada. It would be more usual to write "the American side", or "North America", or even just "America". (This last would of course include South America, but then perhaps in this context that would be correct).

RE: Stop bullying Anthony
Arguably that would read better as "...which is in use in the US more than on this side of the Atlantic."
I did CSYS Latin at a bog-standard Scottish comprehensive! Hugely helpful with language and medical stuff. Although I'm still not sure that a microscopic level of detailed knowledge on the Second Punic War ever helped me much with my veterinary degree. Or any aspect of life thereafter, barring the odd question on University Challenge.

My bugbears (we've done draw/drawer to death) are 'try and' instead of 'try to' (I may have to give up on that one as the R4 continuity announcers have started doing it now), the 'sitting/sat' thing and people who constantly use 'brought' instead of 'bought'. It means a totally different bloody thing! Also 'bias' instead of biased' seems to be creeping into use - both in written and spoken English. "The study was bound to be bias, as it was conducted by the manufacturers". "I think he's gorgeous, but then I'm bias". Bah.
Selective Public School - French/German/Latin were the options in most schools back then (1970s). We all had to do a term of each in 1st form. Japanese was offered a few years later. Studied French to 4th form, Latin to 6th - crazy, I know but I enjoyed it ! Guess that's why I'm a stickler for correct grammar ! Didn't stick with German - too difficult, but can still count to ten.

We had to wear a beret or hat when in public, until we amalgamated with the boys' school in 1975 when a new uniform was designed.

RE: Stop bullying Anthony

Yes, why on earth would colonial schools in the opposite side of the world nearer Japan and the US teach Latin??
We could not agree as to whether it should be called "The Pedant's Corner" or "Pedants' Corner".

One freethinking soul held out for "Pedant Corner".
I went for the plural form on the basis that there seems to be more than one pedant on the forum
Quite so. Yet it would be reasonable style to refer to "the pedant" just as one might refer to "the dog" as in "Anatomy of the Dog". There is probably a name for such use of the singular form. Wray will be able to tell you when he gets back from currying Mr. Gradgrind's horse.
