I have to say Brexit has done us no harm. We are busier than we have ever been and the gossip is that some practices are having problems getting experienced staff!

The only thing to agree on is that we are stuffed for the next few years. Given that we already abide by EU rules, negotiating a trade should be straightforward. My real worry is how the numpties and the swivel-eyed loons will negotiate with the rest of the world (both parties).

[/quote] But still not that high compared with historical levels and who can say whether the increase in the inflation rate is entirely down to Brexit or would have happened anyway. The very low inflation rate of the last decade or so has been something of an historical anomaly and while it might have been good for those with mortgages it most certainly hasn't been a good thing for savers.

We’ll just have to disagree about Schengen Michael. The current border controls cost a lot to provide. All the decent law abiding people of Britain are delayed and inconvenienced every time they enter and exit. I very much doubt you’re keeping any determined criminals out and all the evidence suggests you aren’t well protected against terrorists. I suspect increasing equality and reducing British interference in the Middle East would keep you much safer. You might keep a few refugees out, but the rest of Europe seems to manage.

Hmm what do we make of this. Its the pound vs the euro.

And to get to stage 2 we've gone from "Go Whistle" to 40 billion pounds

But Im not moaning

The Express seems to be, once the champion of leave, they now are warning people that all scenarios make us worse off.

Poor leavers, we are going to leave. I got from Question time last week that everyone seems poorer.... Oh well no point moaning, might as well get used to it. :-)

2 ascertions from either side

Leave - 350 million for the NHS. In reality 260 million because the rebate was conveniently ignored. No-one remembered the divorce settlement, so we'll quietly pay £40-£60 billion euros over the next 40 years. The parallel is the WW2 repayment we finally finished a few years ago

Remain - Project fear. What were the inflation levels last month? The highest in 5 years? Yes it will be tough at first, the leavers told us, that but we'd soon make up for that..... (we're not even out yet) our wages are falling simply because we need to be the same as the world market we now wish to paddle in. 5 years ago they had to fall 20% (source HSBC) we're not quite there yet. The pain is falling on those that will really notice it, not the liberal elite so often cited as true remoaners.

Any trade deal will be to the other countries benefit. Beef/Chicken from America, plastic rubbish form China via the new silk road. (overland rail)

The only positive I can see is our financial sector flourishing in China and India, but in this brave new world, we all hate bankers and they might have all relocated anyway.

[/quote]As far as I understand it, the EFTA countries like being small. The UK wouldn’t be a good fit at all. Norway is very fond of its independence, which it only gained 100 years ago. It will do all it can to keep the UK out.

And to answer the original question, I’d be in the EU and Schengen. I’d vote to be in Schengen in an instant... well actually I’m already in it and will be sad to lose that freedom if/when I return to the UK.

Seriously, I think I like the look of the yellow circle outside the Schengen area, although it looks a bit lonely over there.

Actually, if I'm totally honest, I am not completely sure of the implications of all of them. But Eurozone is a no no. Similarly European Union and Schengen Area. European Economic Area? Not sure. Free Trade Association sounds good. Don't mind minting a few euros for them, either, if that's what that means.

That's great! Hope she likes it. We got one for my eldest daughter but inexplicably she was never that interested, and then the bits got lost which was unforgivable.

The complexity of the circles says it all really. I think a nice new circle should be added to build up a nice Spirograph picture!

Edit (nothing much to do with the above): Just bought a pristine 1970's Spirograph set on Ebay for my niece as a stocking filler! Thanks for the idea!
