[/quote]I use a wax based bike chain lubricant called 'Squirt'. If you do a Google search for that word the results are more erm...interesting than a chain lube!

I used to work for the company that made it and that never occurred to me! I often wonder if people call anal sacs "anal glands" (despite them not being glands at all) because they don't want to be misheard...

Naming products is really difficult. In the handful of companies in the industry I've worked for over the years I've spent days creating a list of 30 contenders, maybe 10 of which I really liked, automatically ruling out anything I've googled and realise has already been done. You then share with colleagues, and after you've striked through the names that your European colleague tells you means something rude in Italian, you realise there's not one on the list that someone doesn't hate, so you have to come to a compromise, leaving the 15 that the fewest people hate. You then send these to the patent attorney, who inevitably strikes a line through all except one, which you never really liked anyway but it's the only one that is a. patentable and b. is not totally unacceptable to everybody. Fortunately in the veterinary sector you CAN refer to the disease the product is for, or include elements of the drug name, etc - all of which you can't do in human medicine.

The product name from the SPC (and therefore what should be written on a script) is "Thyronorm 5 mg/ml Oral Solution for Cats" so there should be no confusion :)

Yes, you have to be very careful to write "Thyronorm for Cats" and warn owners to double check they are getting the right product. Of course, the dispensing pharmacist should be looking at the "methimazole"/ "thiamazole" written on the script alongside Thyronorm but humans are prone to human error after all!

What confused us is there is a human product called thyronorm which does the opposite as it is designed for hypothyroidism. Bit of originality would have been good otherwise prescriptions get very confusing!

Hadn't ever heard of this trade name before. Just checked it is Metoclopramide. Only ever known it as Maxolon or Metomide (in Australia) !
