Yes, the oral exams are always held during Science Week (exams held early part of week, lectures later part of week). The lecture programme is worthwhile - 3+ days with normally at least 8 streams per day.

Medicine of cats is the only one with the oral exam currently available in the UK - all the others are held in July in Surfers Paradise, QLD (a long way to go for 45 minutes or so, but many people from around the globe do it each year).

Written exams can, within reason, be held anywhere (they are in June).

Not all exams are run every year - some every other year (or even less frequently for the less popular subjects). I believe medicine of cats is (currently) only held every other year in the UK, the next one being 2018 - deadline for applications is very soon.

That's a shame - that's another area of interest of mine. Perhaps in future the oral examinations will be available in UK as well. Or perhaps and excuse for a trip to Oz... Does it combine with Science Week at all?

That's what I thought - the questions didn't seem that challenging in principle, though not sure exactly how much detail required for a good mark! And seemed to be less reliant on having a high case load than CertAVP, which was one of the things that was appealing.

Writtens and oral exams both held in UK now as well as Australia (for feline medicine at least) biannually

You can do CertAVP in feline medicine, Edinburgh were offering the relevant C modules a couple of years ago when I checked. They used to run the manzcvs viva exams in the UK as its quite well internationally regarded, think they still do annually. Mentors optional. Some of the past papers available look quite... Straightforward. The manzcvs is much less work than CertAVP (not criticism).

I looked into the dentistry MANZCVS qualification recently as there is no other certificate level qualification. Although it is possible to sit the written exams in the UK, you have to travel to Sidney for the viva - long way to go for a couple of hours....! I'm not sure whether or not this is the case with other subjects. I think you need a mentor, and somebody who has already done the qualification would be ideal. There is loads of information on their website (at least for the dentistry qualification, so I assume for the others too).

I think Kate Richardson has the qualification so she can probably give you more details.
