Does anyone know why?
One of them is called the RCVS Impact Award:
"..
The award will be bestowed upon a veterinary surgeon or veterinary nurse who has recently made a considerable impact

RE: RCVS Awards dodgy Latin cliches

Plus UBER have one of the most insecure apps available.

Have closed the account!

RE: RCVS Awards dodgy Latin cliches

The link that needs to be made is the one mentioned by the FCA chap, that regulation needs to adapt to innovation. Uber only occurred because the black cabs didn't adapt the technology of apps to call a cab. Except that isn't quite right. Uber also worked by undercutting the prices, being able to do so using questionable structures. (prepared to be corrected, never used it, don't live in a city)

RCVS needs to ensure that any innovation is neither circumventing the normal law of the country nor affecting animals health and welfare. TO do that means adopting some of it. The how we do that is a question I can't answer.

RE: RCVS Awards dodgy Latin cliches
Oh Ok here are some of my favourites
Oh Ok here are some of my favourites

If I were a page ahead

Stepping off the playing field

Coping with the waking hours of the day not the working hours

Front line produces the bottom line

Let’s dig into…..

Causing curiosity and interest

Even to the granular level

Whenever you see a man on top of a mountain you can be sure he didn’t fall there

A flag that’s been raised

The day to day is a whirlwind

A lag measure defines a goal of getting from X to Y by Z, this is not a leadership goal

A lead measure is something that leads to a goal

Flex

Agile

Mindset

Edges

Growing or dying

That space….

Pain point

Systemic perspective

Position the environment

Painting possibilities

Popcorn thoughts

Really rapid

Getting out of the weeds and on to the balcony

Lens

Gravitational pull in the see space

Leave the spinning planet

Deep dive

Climate gauges

Positive deviant

Fast furious report out

Pick up with me on a one to one

We don’t do lot of that in our family space, let alone at work

As a leader, by default your ticket to the game is….

Leaning in

Head up

In my head space

Go and have an off site

In the organisational space

Counterfeit behaviours

RE: RCVS Awards dodgy Latin cliches

Uber was quoted during the day as an example of a company using innovation. We were told it was illegal when it started and it is interesting to see TfL rescind its licence.

BBC website: "Uber app has completely changed the London minicab and taxi market. As a "disruptive" technology it was popular and cheap. But although Uber claims 3.5m Londoners use the app and there are 40,000 drivers - the company has been dogged with controversy in the capital. It has been blamed for congestion, failing to report sexual offences and not doing proper security checks on drivers and a rise in collisions. It has also been criticised by unions for poor working conditions of drivers. So this is a big shock to the industry and it will reverberate right around the world where Uber is trying to operate."

Sadiq Khan: I want London to be at the forefront of innovation and new technology and to be a natural home for exciting new companies that help Londoners by providing a better and more affordable service. However, all companies in London must play by the rules and adhere to the high standards we expect - particularly when it comes to the safety of customers. Providing an innovative service must not be at the expense of customer safety and security. I fully support TfL's decision - it would be wrong if TfL continued to license Uber if there is any way that this could pose a threat to Londoners' safety and security. Any operator of private hire services in London needs to play by the rules.

RE: RCVS Awards dodgy Latin cliches
I've made management speak a bit of a hobby

So wearable monitors plus better algorithms can mean no need for a doctor (eg Babylon) or a vet.
Hmmmm
The biggest flaw with the days was that there was no discussion on how we, as a profession, can adapt to this.
Well, we can fix that right now and here, because there are plenty of people Out There who have already worked on this and have the first answers. The RSA is an organisation, much older than RCVS which has talking about this stuff for years.

A great speaker on this subject is Dan Pink talking about persuasion in respect of selling, but his ideas about the shift in professional peoples' role to that of knowledge "curation" - more management speak - is sound in my view.

Try this

It's not so easy. You can calculate the energy of a moving object at the moment it strikes a target quite easily, and you can measure things like the acceleration imparted to the target, or how much the target deforms, and how far the object bounces back, and whether it emits magic rays.
