The answer is within ourselves! You can do NOTHING about other people and their behaviour. Full stop. No matter how many rules you devise and notices you put up, they will still behave counter to that which we desire.

My solution is just to accept it. To rail against it and rant and rave does nothing to make anything better - and just increases your own blood pressure and your temper and actually makes you feel worse!

(As an example - Terry Waite, who was held captive for years, says that he forgives his captors because, to do otherwise would play into their hands, and yet make no difference to them, by increasing his own angst. Such, to me, is wisdom!)

RE: Why do clients...

[quote user="Julie Innes"]Nurse off on holiday, and 1 off ill, so I am doing reception till 9.30. If nothing else it makes you realise what they have to put up with all day long!

[quote user="Clive Ansell"]What do people do about latecomers?
Just think it could be worse, we could be doctors who don't have the consolation of treating the animals!

RE: Why do clients...

[quote user="Clive Ansell"]What do people do about latecomers?
If it's at the end of morning consults, I'm operating so they can't be seen. If it's at the end of the day, I'm gone! If I'm at a branch and someone misses their appointment by a considerable time we will close as normal. If it's at our 24 hour hospital they can go into the evening consults with the on call vet and wait.

If they're turning up up to an hour late it's obviously not life or death.

RE: Why do clients...

I had a complainer last week. Arrived nearly 1 hour early because they were so worried about their dog that had been lame for over a week. I was solidly booked, 10 minutes appointments, plus extras, so were not able to see them until their allotted time. Boy did they whine, even though I was slightly ahead of schedule.

What do people do about latecomers?
I admit, sometimes I listen to an animals chest longer than I need to just to get some peace!!

And yes, between the ones who turn up ridiculously early and moan, and the one who turn up ridiculously late and moan, you wonder why we bother giving appointments...Oh yeah, because I remember open surgeries. Where everyone just turned up at once and they ALL moaned!

Nurse off on holiday, and 1 off ill, so I am doing reception till 9.30. At least it keeps me sympathetic to the staff that are on the desk more than me! Pet hates on the desk:

-People wanting me to peer down the phoneline and diagnose their pets lump/ rash, and give them treatment for it without coming in. Even though we haven't seen it in over a year.

-People wanting to give me a sixty minute story "What it is is"- those words make my heart sink! about how their aunty came into money, even though she played the bingo every week and won nothing, and so she was decorating her house and had offered to take them all away on holiday, so they'd got a really good deal etc etc, and it finally boils down to they need an appointment for a vaccine! (although I've gotten good at heading them off at the pass now!)

- Phoning repeatedly from 8.10am (when I am in setting up) until the phones are finally off answerphone at 8.30am, to ask for an appointment for 3 weeks on Friday.

Someone will bring me coffee soon and things will be better!

RE: Why do clients...

[quote user="Julie Innes"] And then moan and loudly placate their (unbothered) pet "It's ok, it wont be long now, I'm sure", despite the fact THEY have turned up 30 mins early.
