The question is now, has it affected your vote?
Corbyn is going to win a clear majority at the election at the same time Ms May is going to do the same.
The article seems to be based on a single quarters figures. Lower spending as a result of inflation and insecurity. All to be expected and largely relating to changes in the Pound dropping in value.

Speculation on the currency markets and financial markets are more relevant to the figures at the moment than what is happening in the real world. I accept the markets may well crash should Corbyn be voted in. The markets are jittery enough with just the idea it may happen.

I don't like the insecurity but as a profession we tend to do better as people stay at home more and notice their pets are not right!!

Also:

"In a boost for the economy, new export orders continues to remain above the long-term average, showed the respected Markit/CIPS UK purchasing managers' index (PMI).

Manufacturing output came in at 57.3 last month - a reading above 50 indicates growth - whereas economists had been expecting the index to come in at 56.5."

RE: How will Manchester affect the general election?
The uber serious naivety of the left does amuse me so. Talk of Conservatives losing the election because of a few bumps in the road, and the usual leftish tripe being trotted out about taxing the rich fat cats more which flies directly in the face of all economics evidence that reducing the taxation bands actualy increases revenue. Add in the convenient amnesia about the Blair years and the mess the economy was in when the Conservatives took over (now one of the fatest growing in the devloped world, and crapping all over other EU states), and it all becomes somewhat hilarious really.

Anyone who can even contemplate money tree Corbyn being allowed near the levers of power - never mind Abbot, McDonnell et al - /i just cannot understand. He's now saying he's going to get rid of homelessness (?!) and dishing out money all over the place. I can only assume that he knows he's going to lose and is desperately trying to reduce the damage.

I've just put my bets on. Majority north of 80. Anyome fancy a vetsurgeon wager for charity?
The trouble is David that a very high proportion of the electorate, and probably biased heavily towards traditional Labour voters (latterly also UKIP) because they are thick, don't understand or care about any of this. They hear blind promises from JC that they think will make them better off and sting those who they perceive as more privileged than them simply but fail to realise that those people are better off because they work harder and actually have a brain, without for one moment considering the greater consequences.

Same as with few exceptions those who voted Brexit did so because they are knuckle dragging xenophobes who don't have a clue of the machinations of the EU. Ditto those Americans who voted Trump

RE: How will Manchester affect the general election?
I think only the media and the politicians are still interested in squabbling , character assassination and snide point scoring. Social media has made it all about personalities and sound bites like the referendum show all over again. We are in a world where the country that had Abraham Lincoln has elected a loose cannon like Trump. I have lost respect for many of the politicians who behave like children playing a game of Risk with our country .
Try telling that to the Vet Nurse within commutable distance to London where there is bigger demand than in Yorkshire (I'm being honest here) She daren't complain about a rent rise, non repair of a leaking kitchen or query the annual £150 service charge (basically a bit of paper re-iterating her agreement) because she was in fear of being flung out. This policy will hopefully be picked up by an incoming government

That's meaningless. I pay our staff what I think they are worth to the practice. Our student VN is on nearly double the minimum I could legally pay her. I don't have anyone on minimum wage.

That said, if you up minimum wage, all you will do is increase unemployment. Some people really are barely worth it and putting it up in order of pounds will mean companies lay off people.
- The Tory social policy seems a little daft to me - we have the highest student debt in Europe, meaning people get on the property ladder far later in life, if at all
Student loans are not counted as debt when getting a mortgage. I owe over £30,000 and HSBC didn't care on the money owing only the repayment aspect. Put it to the back of your mind - it's insignificant.
Labour has proposed more regulation of the rented property sector, which as a renter is very appealing
Either that's all the practice can afford, or your boss is a rich man/woman. Which is it? If the former, you either need to start charging more or the forced wage rises will lead to lost jobs. If the latter, which would be unusual but possible, I guess, then there is nothing to stop them simply reducing staff to maintain their healthy income!

RE: How will Manchester affect the general election?

Amber Rudd deserves credit as well, her father died 2 days before.
