Guy on the phone clearly didn't have a clue, asked if I meant a retired nurse (was probably thinking veteran), so I said "no, veterinary

RE: Does the passport office know what they are doing?

If you state RVN registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons they are generally happy. Yes I heard about lying them on their back. The problem will be that he tends to scream when he his put on his back unless he a is really sleepy, he just wants to be a carried all the time.

I though a RVN would be qualified enough as well but the passport guy said not. I am not quite sure he knows what a veterinary nurse is though. Probably depends on who you ask/who is going to check the application. Got my former boss to do it now so all sorted.

For baby passport photos, we went to a proper photo place where they laid them on their back and took the photo leaning over them. Much easier that way. We've had 3 done that way.

The hardest part was open eyes as we needed to get our boys done when only a few weeks old when they tend to sleep a lot and don't like waking up during the day.

RE: Does the passport office know what they are doing?

My head nurse has done several. An RVN is a registered professional and as such does come into the category that is allowed to sign.

The list is not exhaustive so other professionals are accepted. Doctors are not on the list because of the disruption it was causing. Perhaps so few doctors actually know their patients sufficiently!

Should be fine!

RE: Does the passport office know what they are doing?

https://www.gov.uk/countersigning-passport-applications/accepted-occupations-for-countersignatories

RE: Does the passport office know what they are doing?

Thanks.

RE: Does the passport office know what they are doing?

I would recommend getting a proper photographer to do passport photos for a baby from my own experience .
