Another superb film I watched again on Saturday: The Duellists. If you haven't seen it, make sure you do.

There's a good verdict on initiation ceremonies, along with much else about universities, study, ambition and life, in another movie I can highly recommend: Three Idiots. I think you can get it on Blu-ray.

Year before your turn so you wouldn't have witnessed it. The slip n slide was done naked, had shorts on for the belly flop. Your year's welcome games were so tame in comparison!

Took you up on that this afternoon ... pretty bleak film (you could have said veterinary / farming / suicide theme without spoiling!). Still, very atmospheric and I found it compelling (and a welcome alternative to the usual fodder of films with numbers in their title)

Both have had pretty good reviews in my film publication of choice (Empire magazine) so I'm considering arranging a veterinary double feature evening.

Yesterday was a rubbish day though so I picked up a DVD of La La Land to make myself feel better.

That one had passed me by. Thank you for the recommendation.

Incidentally, we watched Hud the other night (for all you young 'uns, it was made in 1960, 62, thereabouts).... one of those films I'd always wanted to see and never got round to.... I had no idea that a veterinary matter was crucial to the plot.
