I have never had a problem with open vials covered by a bit of sellotape, kept in a cool place. That said it has been many years since we did that and I would not go back to it now!

At one stage we had to use human propofol because of supply shortages. Big dogs had their own vial, any remains thrown out. The remaining Propoflo Plus was used for the smaller cases.

If you have reasonable aseptic procedures in place nothing nasty is going to happen and I haven't had a problem yet. Another case of rules being for blind obedience of fools etc etc.....

I assume their preservative-free competitors may be coming back in stock (after manufacturing outage) and Zoetis are keen to stop people jumping back to them?

I think the point is that there are propofol presentations with and without a antimicrobial preservative; if preservative-free then you really want to discard multidose vials after broaching since the lipid emulsion is a great bacterial growth medium

Downside is can't use it for CRIs!
