I'm getting reminders, and I voted - it's just an automatically generated form. I doubt the Registrar has even seen it, it's just a bit of online courtesy to have someone's name at the end of the email.

The email, confusingly, was signed (!) by The Registrar. However the information as to who sent the mail, and to whom, confirmed that it originated at the Electoral Reform Society, as that was the return address.

my paranoia is assuaged. For the moment, anyhow.

Not quite true, George Cooper.

I'm not sure who sends the email reminders (the College, or Electoral Reform Services). If it's ERS, then presumably the information concerning who opened and clicked an email reminder would not be shared with the College.

But even if the reminders ARE sent by the College, they could only tell who opened and clicked the email, which is not (by a long way) the same thing as who voted or not.

In other words, some may click the email and then not vote (and the College wouldn't know whether or not they had actually voted after clicking).

Some may indeed click the email and vote.

Some may NOT click the email, but nevertheless vote (by just visiting the ERS website directly here, www.ersvotes.com/vetvote17).

So all that data is useful for is to get a very broad indicator of the level of response to an email reminder. There is no big brother figure at the RCVS poring through the data, thinking: "I see that bloody Cooper hasn't voted this year, I think we should go and let down his tyres."

The actual vote is not controlled by the RCVS therefore no identification information should be available to them.

The numbers are to reduce the risk of fraud as far as I am aware and nothing sinister!

Long before online voting I objected to the ballot paper being marked with my ID number, but was told by the RC that's just how they did it. Although I had nothing to hide it has always affected my willingness to vote. I just thought it wrong.

Think they're just sending out reminders - I voted ages ago and are still getting them. I think you're just being paranoid.
