If you want clinical skills/knowledge then you need to sign up for some CPD or the certificate in the area in which you are interested. The Key Skills module is the equivalent of modules A and B on the RCVS style certificates.

Definitely the former. The modules are:

Thinking and decision-making processes - I found this interesting to read though not anything that change my life or how I work
Emergency care - basically reading the code to professional conduct
Protection of animal and human health - health and safety mainly
Animal welfare and professional conduct - can't remember what this was about
Quality and safety of service - audits etc
Advanced professional and personal development - straight forward

Thats's interesting. I was wondering if it was more about 'how to study/interpret articles etc' rather than teaching actual clinical skills/knowledge.

I've done it - in order to get my BSAVA certificate up to Advanced Practitioner. I didn't think it would be useful but it was to some degree, was at least interesting, it was straight-forward to work through, could use work that I had already done in the certificate and got a CPD certificate at the end of it for 120 hours!

Thanks for that. I think I'll sign up and see what it's like - te syllabus on the website seemed a bit vague so I wasn't sure what was covered. However, being free and online is always of interest as even if just done as an 'extra'.

Yes , its their version of the introspective reflective learning add-ons. It was required by the RCVS to allow the BSAVA certificate holders to apply for advanced practitioner status. Its probably a better way of getting there than an Improve Certificate followed by a trudge along the Harper Adams route, my wife did that, found it extremely irritating and of no value to the practice, and less rigorous examinations on the bits that matter.
