Hi everyone – sorry for the delayed response but we have been in recovery mode post BSAVA Congress. I just wanted to chip in to clarify some of the points raised in this discussion.

The reason for splitting the Formulary into two parts was to enable us to add much more dedicated information on exotics which would not fit into the old format. The BSAVA Small Animal Formulary 9th edition Part B: Exotic Pets was published in 2015 and distributed as the loyalty gift for eligible members renewing in that year. I appreciate that means that not every member received a hard copy, but all veterinary members and qualified vet nurse members have free access to a PDF version via our website.

Part A, covering cats and dogs, was published last month and remains the core veterinary member benefit. Printed copies have been mailed out, the PDF version is available on our website and we are in the process of updating the other digital versions. As well as changing the binding we have also reduced the price to take into account the two parts.

Later this year we will launch a new digital library with both parts of the Formulary available in a searchable format – more news on this will follow in due course.

The exotics section was also technically the 9th edition it just arrived before the cat/dog part in 2015! There is not a new edition of the exotics part.

I remember now - I too use the app almost exclusively but loathe the regular need to sign in again - i can never remember the user name or password so it usually takes a few goes...

Its a pity the exotics formulary isn't a permanent part of the membership package though.

The exotics formulary was last year or the year before's loyalty bonus for continuing membership, in the same way the "how to" book is this year's. I almost exclusively use the app on my phone now instead anyway, now they've fixed the bug that stopped you from signing in.

I've got the cat and dog formulary, and the new book of excerpts from the clinical conundrums in Companion, but it doesn't include an exotics formulary.

Not a physical copy of the exotics part, only the pdf of it. I went online to see if I can order a physical copy and it was the special members reduced price of 30 quid (reduced from 43)

i received a free copy in the post ages ago - it might have been a membership reward - they just sent me the new formulary AND new procedures manual.

no idea why you didn't get one - maybe you should ask them?

And JSAP is one of the best journals out there. Plus registration fee is just £83 for Congress as I'm an old fart, my nurses are costing me more!

You need to be a member to get the app to work.

Also if you are a member, the formulary - including the exotics part - is provided as part of the deal, along with a whole bunch of other benefits.

I consider the BSAVA to be extremely good value for money, and in the last 5 years or so it has made a huge effort to ensure it is relevant to general practice.

At least its properly bound now instead of the stupid coiled spine that fell to bits after a short time! I think we should be grateful we get such a valuable resource for free.
