I'm close to Milton Keynes /Junction 13 M1 so can get anywhere centrally within reason. I'd probably prefer to do it as a day thing, even if it's a long day and cycle together socially with a decent lunch stop somewhere. But as you say, if it's near a suitable overnight stop that can cater for folks wanting to do their own thing.

June or July would be a good time, days are longer and gives time to prepare.

As Neil points out, I think a combination of ideas could work. Choose a location where there is somewhere to stay overnight and a Sunday Audax. Folk can then either cycle to the venue to met up and cycle home doing there own thing the next day, or arrive on the Saturday or the Sunday by car for the Audax alone. I'm flexible.

where is everyone based? I'm in the Midlands, but happy to travel.

Arlo - what is the possibility of getting some Vetsurgeon.org cycle jersey's?

There are a lot more dates with places further up north

The default setting for the audax website is up to 4 months ahead, so make it longer and you will see rides further ahead. I agree it's probably best to set something up with plenty of notice.

How about combining all the requests

We find an Audax of 100km on a Saturday and do this for folks who want to do this. We could then stay overnight locally and if Martin wants to cycle and join in that would be grand. I could then look into doing a 30 mile shorter ride on the Sunday allowing others to dip into the W/E.

100km for me would be about right, I did 4 century rides last year and they are pretty tough to do whilst chatting to people, 100km fits the bill better.

It starts in Wantage which is pretty equidistant for the main protagonists. It's on the Sunday, so I could fix a shorter ride on the Saturday

We're in the Lake District on the 9th April

Personally i think we should set a date a few months (at least) in advance and simple do that

Yes it costs more but you're paying for something we have organised rather than someone else.

Maybe. But I thought the whole point was to make it a social bike ride? Doesn't have to be a competetion. Plus the cost of an overnight stay will be far more than the audax fee, and it will take up a whole weekend rather than just one day.

Realistically, that's probably a no go, unless a few are up for. Could be a nice early spring meander, in a beautiful part of the country, and its only about 110 Km so could be done in time for a late lunch and ale.

True enough, although I've done many audax rides that have taken me to beautiful place with some great cycling, that I wouldn't have otherwise visited.
