I've got mine at the end of the month at Leahurst, and starting to get quite nervous!
Any tips or advice?

RE: CertAVP Synoptic exam

I did one at Liverpool and found it to be most educational - I came away with some new ideas and some other highlighted gaps in my knowledge base to fill that I wouldn't likely have just happened upon otherwise. Sitting with couple of experts in their field discussing cases is quite a privilege. Obviously does depend on the examiners, but I think at Liverpool you'll be impressed - mine were clearly very experienced in examining as well as in their field of expertise and had a realistic view of general practice.

[EDIT - If you're getting public transport and feel it professional to wear a good pair of shoes to such events, bring them in your back-pack, don't wear them!]

RE: CertAVP Synoptic exam

I know people who've done the farm ones at Leahurst and found it perfectly fair.

The idea is really to show you are working at that level and can talk the talk, rather than research and write things down. It doesn't matter if you get things wrong, they will push you until you can't give them any more. Saying you don't know or would refer is fine.

I found mine very relaxed and relevant to what I do in practice. I know some people who were asked about cases they had written up, but I wasn't.

What is the subject?

RE: CertAVP Synoptic exam

All depends on the examiners. I've done three and the best two were as above, quite relaxed but with room for disagreement but overall quite enjoyable. The one rubbish one was with referral people and basically amounted to a set of things you had to say rather than what you wanted to. Charity vet versus referral was never going to end well or successfully. Have never done one at Liverpool.

Good luck!

RE: CertAVP Synoptic exam

Not recently I'm afraid but when I did mine it was very relaxed and quite a nice exam. We chatted over xrays and photos of cases and it was very practical- what you'd do with each case in practice.
