I can only apologize that it has taken Arlo to stimulate me to rejoin vetsurgeon.org in light of my candidacy for re-election to RCVS Council, and thus this post can only be seen as campaigning.

Hi Chris,

You're over in Michigan, which kind of puts you at a bit of a disadvantage (sure, you can come over for Council meetings, but suspect voters will find it hard to imagine you'll have your finger as closely on the pulse as perhaps UK-based candidates might).

Your candidacy surely demands a more compelling case than saying you've actively contributed to Council discussions. How exactly? I'm not sure if it is a fair question (given the committee nature of everything), but any examples of situations where you have had to fight a corner on Council; where you feel that your contribution to the discussion changed how others in the room thought about a subject? Changed the outcome?

This is not a hostile question - genuinely trying to get at the answer to the question: Why vote Gray? Why give someone in Michigan your vote over someone in the UK?

RE: RCVS Council elections 2017

Hello,

Hello

I can not deny that it appears to be a single issue and I do believe that the RCVS position and presence globally is important.

That said since I moved to Michigan I have continued to try and remain well informed about issues facing the profession and believe have actively contributed to Council discussions. My position has enabled me to get a deeper understanding of education and its challenges.

I am proud to say that through the work of RCVS and its Mind Matters initiative I have been able to bring some of that forward thinking supportive material to Michigan State and also the ECC community in North America.

Hi Sarah

Much of the work is done by e-mail communication. I have in the last few years joined the specialist recognition sub committee meeting by Skype.

I have made a point of reading all the Council papers and physically attending Council meetings 4 x a year since moving across the pond the College contributes to my travel to a maximum amount that all Council members can claim. The remainder I fund myself.

I believe that I have made valuable and active contributions to Council since moving to Michigan.

Regards

Chris

RE: RCVS Council elections 2017

"...Nevertheless I hope you will consider supporting me in standing for re-election. The role of the Royal College globally is more important than ever, and I believe that I can bring useful discussion and contribution from across the pond, and in person at Council meetings...."

The RCVS' global role doesn't mean much to me, here in the UK in mundane general practice. This appears to be your single issue for re -election.

Given your family and work commitments, in North America, why would I be persuaded that you could effectively help with the mundane over here, i.e. the stuff beyond the single issue?

RE: RCVS Council elections 2017

My question for you Chris, is that seeing as how you are across the pond, how do you intend to be active in RCVS and attend meetings?
