It doesn't have one mention of Members of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
[it mentions "members" as in "committee members", but not one Member]
Perhaps they forgot they have Members.

RE: RCVS Strategic Plan Isn't anyone going to comment?
The changes that RCVS might want - compulsory CPD etc, are not ones I have any problem with.
I agree, but RCVS are making a pig's ear of it, because their version of how to do it is one which they can measure and if you recall they get v exercised when it comes to their CPD audit, because in their world CPD audit is the only evidence of the truth of vets undertaking CPD. They believe and it is explicit in this plan that they can use the legislation to "make" the profession the best it can be. This is nonsense because only those who are vets can make the profession as good as it can be. RCVS seem to think they define what being a vet is. Very odd.
I can's see how RCVS can actually change any of that.
It's called a liberal interpretation and use of the recent Charter and no curbs from elected Councillors

RE: RCVS Strategic Plan Isn't anyone going to comment?

I have no great fears over what the RCVS might do, because the VSA is very limited in stating what it can do. It used to be said that improving the act would entail having all the other "animal treatment types" being regulated and hence given recognition. Now I see the limitations of the VSA being in our favour. It says who can become a vet, it says how they will be judged (by peers) and it now says how those peers are selected so that they are separate to any standards that are made by council.

The changes that RCVS might want - compulsory CPD etc, are not ones I have any problem with. The very definition of being a professional means keeping current, understanding evidence, wanting to learn more and being accountable.

I can's see how RCVS can actually change any of that. (I should qualify "RCVS" as being the exec that, incorrectly in my view, includes the post of Chief Exec, as council seem to get rather overlooked, but they still can't do anything. A single glimmer of light from the EU debacle is that there will be no parliamentary time to change the VSA.

RE: RCVS Strategic Plan Isn't anyone going to comment?
I remain puzzled why so much of RCVS comes through Nick Stace.
Couple of reasons. Firstly, he's probably the only one who could write a Plan like this and put it into effect and the process of legitimising, it, by saying it was developed in consultation with stakeholders ( no definition provided) does not involve critical appraisal from Councillors or colleagues. How else can you explain the absence of reference to [M]s RCVS?
As long as this singel fact remains, the RCVS can tart itself up as much as it likes.
Fond hope. This Plan is aimed at placing RCVS in a position of "leading" the profession. In order to lead anything you have to have followers who are willing to follow where a leader leads, that share a common vision/goal/purpose. This may be a weakness of the Plan unless they are willing to use their powers to "make" the followers be what they say - there's a name for that type of leadership.

I keep coming back to the RCVS funded VF survey which showed how the profession enjoys trust ratings of 94%. Trust, when I last looked , had to be earned, and I'm pretty sure it's the profession not the people at RCVS who earned that respect. So, what is RCVS aiming to do with this plan? They are seeking a leadership and control role, but for what purpose? The public trust is at this level because of what we do and what we've done, so what's the place we are being led to? Is it 98% public trust?

Meddling with how vets have earned this trust by an organisation with no public profile and no previous experience is, I would suggest, a risk for the profession's reputation. I'm not happy with RCVS playing with that.

There are, allegedly, elected advocates of the profession at RCVS. Where is the push back from these people to the RCVS plan?

RE: RCVS Strategic Plan Isn't anyone going to comment?

There is , and has been for a few years an ethos that we can all do so much better all the time. It does manifest itself in the attitude to CPD. The navel gazing required in the current reflective learning dogma is a classic example of the thought Police in action. Most normal people do reflect on their work and think maybe with hindsight next time we get one of those X,Y,Z. Its puzzling that they think we are not smart enough to be already doing this but just bumble along repeating the same errors of judgement. I think too much of this has the opposite effect ,creates more fear of negative outcomes and reduces GP vets to vaccine and neutering merchants. But there is not much for the public to complain about if that is all your doing. So from that angle the profession will, from the outside at least start to look better.

RE: RCVS Strategic Plan Isn't anyone going to comment?

Maybe it should be renamed a cunning plan?

RE: RCVS Strategic Plan Isn't anyone going to comment?

Load of new speak waffle.
