We worm our 2 dogs with Advocate every month but as the drug does not treat tapeworms we now have some Drontal tablets to be repeated every 3 months. What do others do please?

Milbemycin is probably out of the system in 2 days, but advocate is supposed to work for a month. If drugs from different companies are used they don't have much commercial interest in testing the compatibility, I always thought.

A low risk of transmission of an inconsequential parasite? If so hardly worth "routine" (or in many cases perhaps more accurately described as "random") praziquantel-(ab)use?

But it is potentially zoonotic, which would be an interesting conversation with a client if infection occurred and you had specifically advised they shouldn't treat...
Am unconvinced that praziquantel-ing one's dog (receiving regular effective flea treatment that largely prevents breeding of fleas from your dog) every 3/6/12months will reduce the risk of one's infants ingesting fleas that have developed from infected larval stages from negligible to zero for a disease that is both presumed very rare (in kids) and, generally, asymptomatic? May as well praziquantel the kids monthly as any infected fleas they eat probably weren't conceived on your dog?

RE: Tapeworm treatments
But it is potentially zoonotic, which would be an interesting conversation with a client if infection occurred and you had specifically advised they shouldn't treat...
Yes, I was always taught that we wormed cats and dogs for human protection, not animal! Hence the recommendations for routine blanket treatment rather than faecal microscopy and targeted therapy.

RE: Tapeworm treatments
