I am pretty hot on that - any unsolicited calls from an agencies which are not offering something that is likely to be of interest - ie a real job and one they have genuine reason to think would suit you, and their account is closed.

I have never gotten a cold call from a locum agency, just get the occasional email from a practice that wants to know if I am available.

Arlo, i work as a self employed veterinary consultant (mainly in Emergency and Critical Care out of hours). I work in one practice on this basis (all of us in this practice do, that is how it is set up) on a one week on, two weeks off basis. In my two weeks off I occasionally "locum" if local practices where i worked before are desparate. Does this make me "a locum"? I do NOT WANT to be emailed and cold called by numerous locum agencies about locums i am not interested in doing and not available for!

But i am interested in the locums forum. So what do I do?

Don't like the idea that there are 'hidden' clubs within VS. Don't mind the idea of not being allowed to post as could open up the discussion on the main forum. Paranoid? Shush they might be watching!

Trouble is that both topics are very relevant to smaller practices such as ours.

The last 2 topics have been

1) CPD. I contacted e-CPD and 20 of us are now a 'practice' so we get better priced CPD and learn a bit more which is for everyones benefit.

2) VAT, the government have 'stealth taxed' sole traders to fill the fiscal gap, so how bad is the effect? Conclusion, vote Liberal Democrat.

Hi Mariette,

The criteria for joining the locums forum is that you must be working as a locum, and have your profile set accordingly (which adds you to the VetSurgeon Locum map).

To set your profile as a locum:

Click 'My Account' > 'Edit My Profile'
Tick the box marked 'LOCUM'
Add your work radius.
Add a brief synopsis of your service in 'Profile Summary'
Press 'Save'
