I’m curious as to why? Any EU directive has to be adopted by the UK and devolved governments, so these are now national

RE: The Great Reform Act
My understanding, and I could be wrong on this, is that when new laws are passed by the EU they automatically become UK law under the European Communities Act of 1972, there is no new act of parliament. So when we leave the EU and the 1972 Act is repealed any EU law that has not been transposed into British legislation becomes unenforceable.

EU member states are just trying to start a pissing contest. There is clearly a lot of frustration and worry there because of the silence from the UK government.

They (and others) are trying to make this appear to be a sign of discord and chaos over here but why on earth would the UK government start open discussions (and react) before it has triggered Article 50? The Maltese PM has also stated Britain may not be ready to trigger Article 50 by April. how the heck would he know?

There is so much bullsh+t being talked that I am happy to just see things evolve. The main impact will probably be inflation due to the drop in the Pound. It was overpriced because the Euro was such a mess so probably (like everything else that has happened so far) it would have happened anyway.

Doom and gloom purveyors have been so, so wrong so far. They might be right at some stage in the future but may be just as wrong!

There will be costs untangling UK legislation from EU influence but I doubt it will be astronomical. If it ain't that broke there may not be much fixing to be done at least in the short term.

At least it fills the need for 24/7 news!

Quite glad the country voted the way it did now!

RE: The Great Reform Act

MPs don't have to debate for hours simply to impose some tariffs

If the EU imposes tariffs on UK goods, then we will review this decision on a case by case basis.” As the EU will then have to get agreement from all member states (all having a veto) it’s most unlikely such a decision will be taken rapidly.
It's a fine idea but probably simplistic

The EU will impose tariffs the other way as a 'point of principle' This was said as much by the Maltese premier having taken over the EU presidency

a) MPs who are opposed to Brexit want to artificially push up costs, so they can say "I told you so"

b) the same MPs want to look busy so they can justify their salaries, and inflated expense accounts
