I will say I am British but I refuse to give my ethnicity it is no-one's business if I'm white, black, brown, yellow or bright green.

How on earth can anyone plan any form of immigration policy without knowing the numbers? The alternative would seem to be compulsory registration and monitoring of individuals -much more heavy handed.

I would agree that ethnic origin is none of most peoples business and on non-government sites I would ignore.

Date of birth and (less so) marital status can be relevant if you open any account as it may impact credit rating.

I tend to give as little information as possible.

I recently registered and opened an online shop account, where they asked me for date of birth, marital status and ethnic origin. I left it blank as it is not relevant.
