How did you go about finding locum jobs? What sort of visa did you need?
Thanks in advance

Re: Working in NZ?

I worked in Nz for 8 years in SA work and found clients appalling to work with .Whingeing , picky and mean as dirt .

letter of good standing from RCVS. I've just received this reply from an email I sent them:

Please write to us confirming the name of the veterinary board your letter should be sent to. There is an administration charge of £3.45, which is payable by cheque or postal order to the ‘RCVS’.

A copy of your letter is faxed and posted to the veterinary board concerned, and you will receive a copy for your records

need notarised copies of degree certificates

need to pay register with the new zealand council and then pay another fee to practice

There may be other things but I cant remember of the top of my head. Keep us posted if you find that other things need doing so I can add it to my already long to do list!

Re: Working in NZ?

If you have never been there before, and are planning to stay for less than 6 months then you can go on a working holiday permit (they call them visas if acquired once in NZ and permits of acquired beforehand). If you have been before then a work permit should be applied for. If this is for less than 6 months is fairly straight forward but does require a letter from your employer stating why they can not employ a kiwi for the job. If for more than 6 months requires chest x rays and a doctors certificate. If you are planning on locuming, it would be better to get over there then apply for a visa so you don't have to worry so much about the letter from employers.

I found a job through the NZVC website - advertises permanent and locum jobs, and stayed in one place for 6 months. My wife locumed and found the work fairly hard to get as an equine vet but there were loads of SA and farm jobs going. The people to contact are Paddy Currall - a one woman band who will hassle practices on your behalf, or EVP in Tauranga (Julie worked with a girl called Eve) who are very good.

All the visa/permit info as well as fees can be found on the official NZ immigration site - google it but make sure it's the official site - there are a couple of sites out there who charge you £100-200 to fill out your application form for you and give you advice - it's really not needed!
