I knew that she has had a meteoric rise, recently breaking Dame Kelly Holmes 2004 1500 meters record, and is a medal prospect in Rio. Going back to some early comments in this thread about rowers at Cambridge being given special consideration when carrying out their veterinary studies - that certainly wasn't the experience for my son. He rowed seriously for Oxford while studying for a pure science degree and he fitted in all his training in the early mornings and in the evenings and weekends. I don't think his studies suffered at all. In fact, tired and exhausted though he often was he actually said that the physical training helped his academic studies. I can understand that. My dad is really into his athletics, and he was raving about her- even had a bit of money on her (He never usually bets on athletics)! He is upset with the way the race was run, where the first laps were run really slowly, followed by the last 800m being won in a time that wouldn't be out of place in the 800m finals (apparently, he has been banging on about it for the last 2 days!) He feels it was that that put her out of contention. I think he's more upset about that than the lost money!

RE: Laura Muir

[quote user="Hannah Wynne Richards"]Oh, silly me.
