If you read, as we all must read, our VDS advisory newsletter, then it isn't the letter or the bodies from RCVS you need to watch out for it's the solicitous touchy-feely phone call from ProCon or "Professional standards and something" as they now style themselves.

Apparently this first approach is as much about giving you rope to hang yourself as being a gentle way in to dealing with a complaint or report, so watch your tongue!!

We are now briefing all staff to be wary of phone calls from RCVS and under no circumstances put them through without asking the vet first.

Where has the demand come from to intervene having looked for a problem. Have they nothing better to do?

I am all for help being offered to anyone, even if they don't particularly think they need it but the arrival of the RCVS letter or bodies on the doorstep is likely to be met with panic or aggression rather than relief.

Another solution looking for a problem?

RE: So, are you calling in to complain in confidence?
This thread is not about whistleblowers; it is about the subjects of "anonymous" whistleblowing.
There is nothing nefarious here. RCVS are not about to investigate someone without them knowing they are doing so. RCVS are not going to investigate and put someone through a disciplinary process without them knowing who their accuser is and what they are accused of. To investigate and act whilst preserving the anonymity of the accuser is contrary to natural justice and has a whiff of the Stasi.

RCVS may not broadcast the accuser's identity until late in the day, but it'll become known.

I believe this is an attempt to encourage whistleblowing, so that RCVS can offer intervention other than a disciplinary investigation. However, the scope for misuse and administrative cock-up is large. That won't endear the system to anyone and will just lend legitimacy to a degree of paranoia.

On another note, I suppose the anonymous system could be used to tell RCVS how marvellous a veterinary surgeon/nurse is.

Not that RCVS care.

RE: So, are you calling in to complain in confidence?

This thread is not about whistleblowers; it is about the subjects of "anonymous" whistleblowing.

RE: So, are you calling in to complain in confidence?

Dear Dr Mir,
