On with a new surgery conversion. Only 1 door into consulting rooms. My thought was to have a small CD cabinet/safe in each consulting room for Pentoject, possibly bupronorphine but nothing requiring a register.
Currently we lock Pentoject

RE: CD Cabinet in consulting rooms

Only Sch 2 CDs have to be recorded in the register - i.e. morphine, pethidine, methadone, ketamine, fentanyl, Somulose.

The BVA medicine guidance says:

Schedule 3
Schedule 3 includes buprenorphine,
butobarbital (butobarbitone),
pentazocine, pentobarbital
(pentobarbitone), phenobarbital
(phenobarbitone) and some minor
stimulant drugs.These drugs are subject
to prescription (see Schedule 2 above)
and requisition requirements, but
transactions do not have to be recorded
in a Controlled Drugs Register

We keep invoices as a record of purchase, but don't record pentobarbitone or phenobarb in the CD register. Does anyone else? (obviously locked up).

All we record is methadone and ketamine.

RE: CD Cabinet in consulting rooms

All this talk about "stress", burnout etc and I thought someone was worried about where to store their Compact Discs.....

RE: CD Cabinet in consulting rooms
.....for Pentoject, possibly bupronorphine but nothing requiring a register.
Nothing to add to the original question but do you not keep a record of Pentobarbital you obtain and use?
''The room housing this container should be lockable and tidy to avoid drugs being misplaced. Its keys should not be kept with keys to other parts of the building. The room should not normally be accessible to clients.

However, if clients do have to enter the area, you should consider continuously supervising them until they leave the area.''

Personally I would say a consulting room is not an appropriate place for a CD cabinet.

(Whatever you do - don't stick a sign on the outside of the cabinet saying 'Controlled drugs kept in here' or similar - which is sometimes seen...!!).

RE: CD Cabinet in consulting rooms

I don't think it would fulfill PSS standards of you go for that Michael.
