Johnson has withdrawn. I suspect he is resilient enough to cope with the manner of it.
Gove - really?

What has happened is the markets have responded to a degree of uncertainty.

Any or all of this may well have happened anyway.

Osbourne is starting the first shot across the bows of the EU boat. Lower Corporation Tax to attract and retain businesses to the UK. Leaving the EU allows us to set the rules and the EU leaders to respond.

They are the ones with the weakest and unbalanced economies and their defensive/aggressive attitude is triggered by weakness, not strength.

If they are sensible there will be a lot of cooperation and a fair deal will result. At the moment most of the behaviour is posturing. We don't have political figures around to stick figurative two fingers back at them (other than Farage) but we soon will!

RE: Whither the leadership post referendum?
(Probably the worst lier of the whole Brexit campaign was George Osborn................whose doom and gloom forecasts have been proven inaccurate by the performance of the stock market)
Lets put this one to bed Wynne. The Bank of England has not, and cannot, just sit back, watch the financial status of this country plummet, and say 'we told you so'. They are working very hard to stabilise this country's financial status but, make no mistake, there was a massive negative impact due to brexit. The stock market has since improved - but only because of quantitative easing and Mr Carney's continued reassurance and hints at further QE and interest rate cuts in the summer. (The FTSE 100 improves immediately after his speeches.)

In time our economy will recover - and hopefully thrive - but please don't forget that there are a lot of people working very hard to regain some economic stability in very difficult circumstances - and it IS costing us all money. It is likely it will cost us more than we were paying to the EU in the first place.
and may be advantageous in order to allow the disappointed Remainers to recover their mental equilibrium
what a ridiculous statement.

RE: Whither the leadership post referendum?
Wynne, I didn't mention the referendum. I would only contemplate a re-run of a referendum if the people who won it deceived the people who voted.

If you mean manufacturing spurious reasons to re-run a referendum (endlessly) until the "chattering classes" get the result THEY want.................then a thousand times NO

There had been reported irregularities in a few thousand votes. People shouldn't be scared of re-running it. If both parties have been truthful in their promises and have not backed down of what they promised in the following days after the initial results, the second run shouldn't be affected.

It'd be different of course, if the party who won, completely backtracked in all the promises they used in their campaign. But that shouldn't happen in developed and educated countries.

RE: Whither the leadership post referendum?
Why won't people just accept a result is a result?
Maggie became a lot more interesting and photogenic as she developed as a public figure.
A very competent organiser and manages to get things done without quite the level of putting peoples backs up that Boris and Gove have.

Having seen (and not particularly liked) the things she has done in the Home Office, I have to admit a degree of respect for her. Not showy, not particularly interesting or photogenic but a sound organiser. She has insisted on seeing pretty much everything being done on her behalf at the Home Office.

Might just turn out to be one of the great leaders if given the chance.

RE: Whither the leadership post referendum?

time for Oliver Cromwell type to step in and sweep out the useless, the self seeking and reform the whole thing so that the Party is not more important then the country.

Both labour and the conservatives let their membership decide and this week 60000 people have signed up to the labour party so will decide, look what happened last time.....nice chap but can't lead.

What we need is good leaders and only those really close can judge this.

Yes elect our MP's and leaders but let them make the decision and install some trust.
