I have had people just walk in and ask a few times over the years, you have to admire their bold directness, or response to frustration , they may just get lucky somewhere if they do it often enough. No one advertises because your constantly bombarded by IVC CVS etc and the obsession with market share and capital available means they tend to get their own way.

I'd suggest registering you interest with the practice valuation/broker companies e.g. Anval et al

Hi Paul,

If the UK is like Australia, most practices are probably no longer advertised. Both of our clinics were purchased privately without them ever being advertised.

We now find that on a regular basis we get letters from corporates wanting to buy us out/go into partnership etc, so if we were ready to sell we would likely look towards our current staff first, then look at the corporate offers.

If you have an area in mind, I would take a leaf out of the corporates books and write to clinics in that area expressing your interest. We did that with our second clinic and heard back two days later. You never know when someone is looking to sell, but I imagine most people would rather sell to a private vet than a corporate if the price was similar.
