I doubt that EU nationals in employment will be affected much beyond the need for a work permit (at worst).

Perhaps this is a chance for the increased numbers of UK graduates to be looked after better and encouraged to stay in the profession.

It is not just that. The UK is less attractive now, it is not 'EU citizens will find it more difficult'. It is more on the lines of... - 'why would they bother?'

Before they axed the Highly Skilled Migrant Visa, they removed vets from the list of industries with shortages due to the influx of European vets. They would need to add it back to the list before us Aussies could return.

The weaker pound (I was lucky to be locuming when the pound was at its peak pre-GFC) makes it less attractive to locum in the UK, but most of us do it for the fun, not for the money. It may mean we end up locuming an extra month or two to get enough money together to travel on.

Unfortunately, until they do something sensible like reinstate the Highly Skilled Migrant Visa, there's a very small window of opportunity for the Aussies & Kiwis (without Ancestry etc) to come over. It was an insane move, axing that.

2 possibilities:

1. EU citizens may be unable or may find it much more difficult to come and work here, therefore fewer available vets. Wow! I can feel those locum rates ratcheting up already . Seriously, I hope skilled EU workers can still come here easily after brexit, they make a valuable contribution.

2. No longer under EU regs, so with this government in power we can maybe look forward to further deregulation and further erosion of workers rights, terms, and conditions such as the WTD - could be bad news for employed folk and boom time for the corporates and low cost clinics ?

maybe one will cancel the other out to a degree?

Two main groups.

1) Many of the specialists are EU nationals. Presumably good salaries!

2) Cheap labour. Reduced salaries, deteriorating working conditions, making life tough for all new graduates. A few corporates taking advantage plus the very dodgy vaccination clinics and some OV work.

Perhaps the threat of the loss of automatic residence rights may reduce the appeal of working in the UK.
