Yet when I do need someone they can't find anyone suitable and some of the candidates they propose are a joke as if they've made no attempt to match my requirements with what they have available. Are they really that desperate?

I've had a different company message to say they have loads of locum positions for me. On questioning it turned out they weren't in my field and weren't in the geographical radius I had set. I'm fine with being contacted by an agency if they actually have a suitable position but the bulk message without bothering to look at the map or person's summary is just lazy and wasting everyone's time.

Any way to dissuade the generic spam messages?

Oops, you're right, you didn't do it. Just realised that the default on the 'edit profile page' is that the tick box appears ticked when the page is loaded (regardless of whether or not you have ticked it), and if you then save your profile without unticking, it makes you a locum. We've fixed it, and luckily few people had edited their profiles over the last few days except to specify that they are a locum, so only a few placed on the map in error. I will verify all are correct now.

Do you want to delete this thread as well so as not to cause a rumpus? I've politely replied 'no thanks' to the messager (well as polite as my sarcasm can be)!

You're obviously not a locum, so I will change your profile so as not to display you on the VetSurgeon Locum Map.
