God what a morning. Daughter returned to her bed, said she didn't need the loo (which seemed plausible given the state of our bed), then peed all over that one too. But at least that's just a cheap single one.

Meanwhile daughter 2 now off school due to being woken by Daddy's dawn chorus, and I think the wife is calling round a few divorce lawyers.

We have saved beds, cars, carpets and soft furnishing from spilled milk, animal and human excreta.

This works well for carpets, settees and car interiors that can be left to fester for a few days, however not so good for a bed you've got to sleep in tonight! But once you've started using disinfectant products it inactivates the enzymes in the odour eliminator.

This is a good tip, oft used to remove the smell of Tom cat piss from walls and furniture, which, unless you are a testosterone machine, smells far more pungent than human urine.

It worked for me at uni when my brother decided to use my carpet as a urinal in his semi-comatose semi-pissed state after a large night.

Thanks JGW - that was the very same page I found on my ipad in between effing and blinding at 5.00 this morning. All the advice I've found so far assumes that the, er, incident is dealt with quickly, whereas in my case, it must have happened some time before I woke up. Toyed with the idea of heaving the mattress outside, hosing it down and leaving it to dry for a week. But think that might make it worse, so I think the only answer is probably what I've done already, then turn the mattress over when it's dry and try and pretend it never happened!

That, or remortgage for another mattress (it wasn't cheap, but it was life-changing for someone with metal pins in their back).

RE: A bad start to the morning ...

Hmm.
