It is not because there are no flags in Scotland, that there are no locums willing to work there.

For me personally, I have no issue travelling nationwide as long as there is some sort of accommodation available near the practice and I can arrive the day before I start the position. I am not a morning person and you do not want to be anywhere near me if I have had to get up at a silly time in the morning, with a very long commute ahead of me and been stuck in morning traffic.

Well, I only sent the email announcing it to everyone a few minutes ago, and already the first six locums have already planted their flag firmly on the map. Just not in Scotland yet! Fingers crossed!

Julie Innes Hang on, I only switched this on a few hours ago!!!

It doesn't just automatically add flags for anyone who is a locum (would create a privacy issue if I did that without warning people!).

Locums have to find out about this new service, then visit their VetSurgeon Profile from the main menu, and add themselves to the map.

Will be emailing everyone about it today and posting a news story, so I hope by the end of it, there will be some more flags on the map, and then it will continue to grow from there.

Locums, if you are in touch with other locums that you don't compete with directly, do send them a link to the map and tell them to come and plant their flag on it (and join the new locum group whilst they're here)!

Oh, I was so full of hope (being trying to get summer/ autumn locums since March, to no avail!!) But seems to confirm what I already feared- there are none, especially in Scotland

The update is complete, but we have a couple of minor issues to iron out.

The new locum map is here: https://www.vetsurgeon.org/jobs/find-a-locum.aspx

Locums, to add yourself to the map, Click 'My Account' at the top, then 'Edit My Profile'.

Then make sure you have a postcode entered (if you'd rather not display a home postcode for any reason, you could use a nearby one).

Then tick the box marked 'Locum'

Then select the distance you are prepared to work from the drop down menu.

Here comes the glitch ...

You will then see a field marked 'Profile Summary', which is not yet properly formatted to make it easy to enter a summary about yourself. The idea here is that you enter a short summary about your locum services, which is then displayed alongside your work radius on the map.

Problem is the box is not yet formatted to make it easy to enter text, and nor does it yet allow paragraphs in the text. You could cut and paste something in there now, or wait till tomorrow when we update again.

Finally, don't forget to SAVE!

A few minutes later, you'll see you have stuck your flag on the map.

Hope you all like it. Hope practices will find it easy to browse and find a locum.

Now we just need a few more pins on the map - so who'll start me off?
