you will probably get several free packets of the offending biscuits ,which is what usually happens in these complaint situations , Depends whether you like biscuits ?. Its a shame Laithewaites do not use a dog in their advertising ,I could be very offended for a free case or two .

I've had an acknowledgement from the ASA that they've recieved my complaint against Mc Vitie's and will let me know in 10 working days whether or notbthey intend pursuing it.

The point was that they said they were selling puppies like that, as a PR stunt, and loads of people believed they actually were, which led to an outcry.

Once they made clear that it was only a joke, majority of people seem to be calling it tasteless.

As an ex PR man, I think it was a brilliant piece of PR. HUGE amount of coverage for the company (aside from the way it spread on social media, it was also covered by most of the national newspapers), and it got people thinking about how we view pet ownership, and it gave charities an opportunity to get the message out there that they have dogs that really need a proper home.

It looks to me as though they're advertising clothes that are suitable for dog walking.

No harm in that, unless you're concerned the woman in shorts gets her legs scratched by a boisterous canine.

If they really were selling puppies like this, it would be a very different matter.

Overall impression - tasteless joke, because irresponsible puppy selling isn't a fit subject to joke about, but , unlike the Mc Vitie's advert, not potentially fatal.

It's been causing quite a storm on Twitter today; I'm amazed that anyone was taken in by the stunt in the first place. People in the marketing department at Lyst must be rubbing their hands with glee - I mean who'd heard of them before this?

I think that's the danger with grape toxicity. Some dogs eat them all the time with no ill effect, other eat a small amount and go into renal failure.

Just done it.

There's also an advert for Mc Vitie's Ginger Nuts which features a rabbit. Does anybody ( Gillian.........Marie?) know whether or not ginger is toxic to rabbits?

It worked for me a few years ago, when I contacted ASA about the Direct Line advertisements claiming the average Veterinary transaction fee was over £600. They pulled the advert

The ASA were pretty fair the one and only time I got in touch with them, and took the complaint seriously despite me being "disgusted of Tunbridge Wells".

Well, to be fair, a formal letter from a representative veterinary body is going to have a lot more clout than 'angry-from-Wales'.
