It's thought be related to neuropathic pain. And the cat is on prednisolone.
There was an article in JFM&S a couple of years back I think that included daily nitenpyram as an option for flea-allergy I think?

I find comfortis in cats a bit hit and miss in terms of taking it - I think crumbling the tablet and mixing in with food is most reliable.

I've also heard rumours that Bravecto is safe and effective in cats, but do your own research if you're considering it and don't quote me on that!
Tried it on large multi-cat household that could not eliminate fleas from with anything else (yes, environmental control was good) but tablets only come in a 6 pack which some owners do not like to commit to re cost. Tablets seem to be quite a large size especially if have to be poked down - need to be given with food.
