Laughed out loud at the idea that anyone might be titillated by a glimpse of my thighs. I very much doubt even Mrs G would agree with you.

Seriously, I didn't think I was being coy. I've said in these forums ages ago that I plan to charge for job advertising. And on the page I linked to, I state clearly what my pricing policy is. As to the goods, well, to a large degree, I'm developing VetSurgeon Jobs live on the site, so you can see what they are.

Strictly speaking, I guess you're right. But it was an honest mistake. In short, I was advised by a search optimisation company to add the ratings VetSurgeon had been given by advertisers in a way that Google could 'see' them, and which would cause Google to display stars under our entry when it appeared in search results (which makes them stand out a bit on the page). I did this honestly and accurately (4.2 out of 5). When I was later contacted by Mr Google and the ratings removed, a) the search company was gobsmacked because they were not aware of it being against any rules, and b) it seemed implausible that out of billions of pages, Google would have identified that this one page contravened a rule and taken action unless someone had complained (and given the complaint process requires a certain understanding of the process, it's likely to be someone with a little know-how). Anyway, now looks like I've been had on a technicality (that ratings should apply to individual list items, not lists themselves), which I have taken up with Google.

You're right, whether or not I am able to display some stars doesn't make an awful lot of difference in the grand scheme of things. Still annoying.

Mr Google suspending your posting surely means you're not playing by their rules eh? There should ne no surprise if you get your wings clipped. If there's purpose in what you did, or if it doesn't really affect the business model then move on, no real harm done. So, which is it?

For clarity, JGW, is this having a pop at my OP? If so, I think you're reading way too much into it all. Someone complained about me to Google resulting in loss of stars. I was annoyed by that (entirely human) and had a bit of a rant. I'm not sure how that's a sign of weakness, though I admit taking the moral high ground, largely because I think I have it!

I know what you're hinting at JGW, and I'm stupidly going to take the bait...

If Arlo decides to bankrupt himself by offering a service for free that others currently charge vast amounts for, that would be his choice. Stupidly, many people have made similar mistakes in business by not costing their work correctly and undercharging. However, he makes no secret of the fact that he is building the site, charging nothing while it builds, and then intends to charge an appropriate and justifiable amount. It is a free market and no business is free from competition. If your business model is sound, it shouldn't frighten you.

You've got world authorities [and me] giving you advice for FREE and you're moaning 'cos someone, who did all the work setting this up for NOTHING, is making money, let alone a profit, when you lot are doing bloods X-rays and ultrasounds, which add nothing to the obvious hard stone-like foreign body, and bloods in case the dog's got a *art stuck cross-wise.

To say nothing of "annual boosters" and all that jazz.....
