Dogs 90+% of our work. Dedicated theatre table. Flat top or V top? Heated a gimmick or useful addition? Suppliers?
Cheers in advance

RE: Operating Tables

I have the V top table from Burtons. Ordered hydraulic but they sent an electric one and it seemed too much hassle to change. No problems with it at all except sometimes I wish it had a smaller base when we're trying to manoeuvre equipment around it. The power cable can be disconnected when not in use so it's not usually in the way when we're operating. We just charge it once surgery is finished for the day and haven't had any problems with flat batteries.

RE: Operating Tables

[quote user="Beats"]As I understand it, most heat loss is convective rather than conductive, so heated table = gimmick.
This was my understanding as well. I went on some CPD last year that said that the best way to reduce heat loss was warming the inspired gases.

RE: Operating Tables

I'm looking at a low-lift not pedestal type from a Dutch company, prefer hydraulic as personal preference - no cables to be disinfecting after spills and no battery to be flat at inopportune moments. If doing full refurb may get better value with multiple purchases? Could price international supplier online if brave enough!

RE: Operating Tables

[quote user="villagevet"]V-top and adjustable height all the way - don't have to raise the v and a rubber mat will make flat top out of same in an instant!
Cheers. I see Burtons, Vet Direct and the German company beginning with E all offer a V topped table. Do you know what make yours is?

Electric or hydraulic?

RE: Operating Tables

[quote user="Michael Woodhouse"]Heated a gimmick or useful addition?
The link below no longer appears to work I'm afraid, but the gist is that in short procedures nothing makes a difference (other than pre-heating... ) as decrease in core body temperature is due to redistribution to the cooler surface of patient, insulating extremities (paws, tails) and avoiding getting wet etc will help reduce severity of hypothermia in longer procedures, forced warm air system (e.g. Bair hugger, about £350 2nd hand and can make re-usable blankets from http://www.vasg.org/warm_air_blankets.htm) or "Hot-Dog"=££££ are only fool-proof means (i.e. without risking thermal injury which would be significnatly worse than perioperative hypothermia) of maintaining suitably high ambient temperature around the patient to prevent moderate/severe hypotermia in long procedures.
