That one made me chuckle Most of my extended family doesn't leave Málaga province more than once a year if they do. I'm the black sheep, my life has taken me through a large part of Spain (seeing practice, studying and as a taxi driver and I have worked in more than 20 different locations across the UK (including locum, permanent positions, SA and meat inspection). Haven't touched Wales yet tho...

I'm sure many people lead a much richer life than me in the travelling aspect. But I wouldn't consider mine as 'sheltered'. Playing devil's advocate again Martin?

Maybe it's the fact that when on holiday they think they're SUPPOSED to enjoy themselves, together with the fact that they know they won't have to work the next day that leads to EXCESS drinking, and that leads to the other problems. Maybe (if they're from a small town background) the fact that they won't be seen by parent's friends may also contribute.

Not necessarily forbid. Advising against it based on the assumption that there's something wrong with that person because it belongs to a particular ethnic group is in itself racist.

'My dad doesn't want me to go out with that English because they fight when they get drunk' is one of the popular racial slurs that I have heard in my younger years.

Of course the illiterate that uses these statements mean white North European (slang term 'guiri'), and they don't know the difference between English and British or even Norweigan .

It works both ways.

I've done a bit of Googling on the subject and found that Enoch Powell and Micheal Foot (another great orator, but a left-wing socialist) frequently co-operated in an attempt to defeat Ted Heath's determination to destroy our sovereignity.

Powell was a turd, because he was prone to occasional monumental poor judgement, especially in his latter years when I was paying attention to him and gave an imprimatur, some sort of respectability to white racist views which otherwise decent people would have been ashamed to acknowledge. His legacy, in part at least is UKIP's politics, so how great is that?

I agree. Powell had a massive intellect and he was a brilliant speaker, but a relatively ineffective politician. Almost everyone who condemns him does so knowing nothing about him other than the mis-reported soundbite from one speech - if nothing else just sit down and read what has become known as the "Rivers of Blood" speech in its entirety, then as Gerry suggests, look at the Hola Camp speech.
